Tech. Description

Stand Collar Gathered Yoke Balloon Sleeve Blouse

A loose women's pull-on blouse with a curved front yoke and a back yoke, the body gathered into both, a stand collar over a centre front slit fastened with one button and a rouleau loop, and two-part balloon sleeves with elastic at the wrist.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer, worn loose over trousers, jeans or a skirt.
  • For office or everyday wear in chiffon or other thin fabric.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose and straight, with fullness from gathers below the yokes.

Length: Hip length.

Collar: Interfaced stand collar with a rouleau loop at the right end and a button at the left end.

Front: Front cut on the fold and gathered into a curved front yoke. The yoke is in two halves joined at centre front below a slit; the slit edges are interfaced and finished with a double 1 cm turn.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves with a horizontal seam: the lower sleeve is gathered into the upper sleeve, and the hem forms a casing for 2 cm elastic.

Back: Back cut on the fold, gathered between marks into a back yoke cut on the fold.

Finishing: Hem folded twice by 1 cm and topstitched; shoulder and side seams pressed towards the back and overlocked.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gathering into yokes, a finished centre front slit, a stand collar with an inserted rouleau loop, and sleeves with a gathered seam and an elastic casing, all in thin, slippery fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin fabrics from natural or blended fibres, chiffon.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (stand collar, centre front edge of the front yoke)
  • 1 button
  • Elastic, 2 cm wide

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the bottom of the garment – 2 cm, for the sleeve hem – 3 cm. Allowance for the center cut of the front yoke – 2 cm. Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical parts). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 1 piece (on fold)
  • Front – 1 piece (on fold)
  • Back Yoke – 1 piece (on fold)
  • Front Yoke – 2 pieces
  • Stand Collar – 2 pieces
  • Upper Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • Lower Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • Bias strip 2.5 × 5 cm for the button loop – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Stand Collar and to the allowance along the center front edge of the Front Yoke.
  2. Stitch the Front Yoke pieces together at center front from the mark downwards. Press seams open. Fold the allowance inwards by 1 cm, then another 1 cm, and topstitch along the slit.
  3. Along the upper edge of the front, sew a line of stitching with loosened upper thread and gather. Stitch the Front Yoke to the Front. Overlock the allowance and press upwards.
  4. Along the upper edge of the back between the marks, sew a line of stitching with loosened upper thread and gather. Stitch the Back Yoke to the Back. Overlock the allowance and press upwards.
  5. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the blouse. Press seams towards the back and overlock.
  6. Cut a bias strip 2.5 cm wide and 5 cm long for the loop. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch 0.3 cm from the fold. Trim allowances close to the stitching, turn the strip right side out, and straighten the rouleau. Adjust the loop length.
  7. Place the Stand Collar pieces right sides together and stitch along the outer edge, starting and ending the stitching exactly at the collar stand attachment line. Insert the loop between the collar pieces on the right-hand end. Clip allowances at curves, turn right side out and press. Stitch the outer Stand Collar to the neckline, fold under the open edge of the inner Stand Collar and topstitch into the attachment seam.
  8. Along the upper edge of the Lower Sleeve, sew a line of stitching with loosened upper thread and gather. Stitch the Upper Sleeve and Lower Sleeve together. Overlock the allowance, press upwards. Stitch and overlock the sleeve seams. Set sleeves into armholes. Overlock the seam.
  9. Press the bottom of the garment to the wrong side, fold twice by 1 cm, and topstitch.
  10. Overlock the sleeve hem, fold inwards, and topstitch, forming a casing. Thread elastic tape through the casing and secure it.
  11. Sew the button to the left end of the Stand Collar.
