Fabric Recommendations
Achieve the best drape and comfort with lightweight fabrics:
- Dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers (e.g., linen, cotton lawn, rayon challis, Tencel twill) for a light, flowing drape.
Additional Supplies
- Fusible interfacing (for facings and lapels)
- 1 button (for internal wrap security)
Cutter's Must
If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the dress bottom – 2.0 cm; hem allowance for the sleeve bottom – 1.2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). Attention! Markings on the patterns are made on the right side.
- From main fabric:
- Back - 2 pieces
- Back side - 2 pieces
- Front - 2 pieces
- Front side - 2 pieces
- Lower side – 2 pieces
- Belt - 2 pieces
- Back neckline facing – 1 piece
- Front facing – 2 pieces
- Sleeve – 2 pieces
- From fusible interfacing:
- Back neckline facing – 1 piece
- Front facing – 2 pieces
Sewing Instructions
When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
- Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
- Fold the belt piece right sides together and stitch along the long side and one short side. Trim the seam allowance at the corners, turn the belt right side out and press.
- Stitch and overlock the center back seams. Press the seam allowance to the left side.
- Stitch the side seams of the front and back side panels, inserting the belt piece into the left side seam. Overlock the seam allowances and press towards the back. Along the upper edge of the lower side, stitch with a loosened upper thread and gather or create arbitrary pleats. Stitch the upper and lower side parts. Overlock the seam allowance and press upwards.
- Stitch the back princess seams. Overlock the seam allowances and press towards the center.
- Stitch the front princess seams. Overlock the seam allowances and press towards the center.
- Stitch the shoulder seams, press the seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
- Stitch the shoulder seams of the facing and front facing, press the seam allowances open. Overlock the outer edge. Place the facing and front facing on the right side of the dress and stitch along the front edge and neckline, inserting the second side of the belt. Trim the seam allowances, clip the seam allowances at the corners, turn the facing and front facing to the wrong side and press.
- Overlock the lower edge of the sleeve. Fold the allowance inwards and topstitch. Set the sleeves into the armholes. Overlock the seam allowances.
- Cut a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the length of the lower armhole + 6 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise right side out and press. Place the binding with the armhole edge right sides together and stitch. Fold the binding to the wrong side, clip the seams, and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
- Overlock the hem allowance of the dress, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
- On the left front facing, overlock a buttonhole. Sew on a hidden button.
