Introducing a sophisticated women's sheath dress pattern featuring an elegant illusion yoke, a flattering sweetheart bodice, and a unique pleated and buttoned back detail.

When To Wear

This sheath dress is designed for elegant occasions and professional settings, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Formal Events & Ceremonies: For its refined silhouette and elegant details, suitable for weddings or galas.
  • Cocktail Parties & Evening Gatherings: The illusion yoke and fitted style make it perfect for semi-formal evening events.
  • Professional & Business Casual: Its tailored fit and sophisticated design offer an elevated choice for office wear or business events.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted sheath silhouette, gently following the body's curves.

Neckline: Round neckline with a sheer illusion yoke extending over the shoulders, framing a sweetheart-shaped bodice.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with clean, finished armholes.

Front: Features a fitted bodice with shaping seams that define the sweetheart neckline.

Waist: Defined at the natural waistline with a clean horizontal seam across the front.

Back: Elegant deep V-shaped sheer illusion yoke, with a row of five decorative buttons down the center back, followed by soft, vertical pleats that add graceful movement to the skirt.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires precise handling of sheer fabrics, accurate seam matching for the fitted bodice, invisible zipper insertion, and construction of the pleated back detail.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Finish the side and bottom edges of the train with a narrow rolled hem. Along the upper edge, stitch with a loosened top thread and gather.
  2. Stitch the dart on the BACK PANEL. Trim the depth with an overlocker and press towards the center. Stitch the center seam. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press open. Stitch the center seam of the upper BACK PANEL. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCE open. Attach the upper part to the BACK PANEL, inserting the train. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCE upwards and press.
  3. Attach the FRONT PANEL SIDE PANEL to the FRONT PANEL along the lower edge. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCE upwards. Overlock the relief seam and press towards the center.
  4. Fold the upper part pieces right sides together and stitch along the neckline edge and two other longitudinal edges extending to the BACK PANEL. Clip the SEAM ALLOWANCES at the curves and turn right side out.
  5. Stitch the right side seam. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCES and press open. Overlock the left side seams separately. Stitch from the ZIPPER mark to the bottom. Insert the ZIPPER.
  6. Stitch the LINING pieces similarly to the main pieces. Overlock the bottom edge.
