Sheath Dress with Diagonal Buckle and Slit

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim SEAM ALLOWANCES to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

1. Stitch darts on the center FRONT PANEL, press depths upwards. Lay and secure pleats on the FRONT PANEL. Depths are directed towards the center.
2. Attach the side FRONT PANEL to the center FRONT PANEL up to the slit mark, clipping the SEAM ALLOWANCE at the corner. Clip SEAM ALLOWANCES at the mark. In the upper part, press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the center and serge. In the lower part – press open, serge and topstitch along the edge of the slit.
3. Serge the center back edge separately on each piece. Stitch the center back edge from the ZIPPER mark to the bottom. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES open, pressing the slit. Insert the ZIPPER.
4. Stitch the princess seams of the BACK PANEL, press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the center and serge.
5. Fold the tab piece in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long and shaped sides. Turn the tab right side out, straighten, press.
6. Stitch shoulder seams, press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL and serge. Stitch side seams, inserting the tab. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL and serge.
7. Stitch shoulder seams of neckline FACINGS, press SEAM ALLOWANCES open. Serge the outer edge. Place the FACING with the garment right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip SEAM ALLOWANCES at curves, turn the FACING to the wrong side, press and topstitch along the outer edge to the main piece. Attach the center edges of the FACING to the ZIPPER tape.
8. Stitch SLEEVE seams. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES and serge.
9. Set in SLEEVES into armholes, matching NOTCHES. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES and serge.
10. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the SLEEVE. Fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
11. Thread the tab through the buckle and topstitch into the seam of attaching the side FRONT PANEL.
