When To Wear

  • In hot weather with trousers, shorts or a narrow skirt.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted bodice with darts, flaring below the waist seam.

Length: Hip length.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; the flounce covers the shoulders and upper arms.

Waist: Waist seam joining the bodice to the flared lower part.

Finishing: Flounce edge, ties and lower hem finished with a narrow rolled hem.

Lining: Bodice lined with the main fabric, finishing the neckline and armholes.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Working with slippery silk or chiffon, narrow rolled hems, a self-lined wrap bodice with the flounce and ties sewn into the neckline seam.

Fabric Recommendations

Silk fabrics or chiffon in natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • None besides fabric and thread.

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, the patterns include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: allowance along the outer edge of the flounce and the lower edge of the bottom - 0 cm, along the belt contour - 0 cm, other seams 1 cm. Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Attention! Lining pieces are cut according to the main fabric patterns from the main fabric.

  • From main fabric:
    • Upper back – 1 piece
    • Upper front – 2 pieces
    • Lower front – 2 pieces
    • Lower back — 1 piece
    • Flounce — 2 pieces
    • Lining for upper back — 1 piece
    • Lining for upper front — 2 pieces
    • Belt — 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Overlock the long and one short edge of the belt with a narrow rolled hem.
  2. Stitch the darts on the front and back pieces. Press the dart depths towards the center. Stitch the shoulder and left side seams. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back. Overlock the right side seams. Stitch the right side seam up to the notch, leaving an opening for the belt.
  3. Assemble the lining similarly to the main fabric pieces.
  4. Stitch the flounces along the straight edge. Overlock the allowance. Overlock the outer edge of the flounce with a narrow rolled hem.
  5. Face the neckline with the lining, inserting the flounce and belt pieces between the main fabric and lining. Turn the lining to the wrong side.
  6. Face the armhole with the lining in two steps: face the front armhole, then the back armhole.
  7. Trim the allowance from one of the short sides of the lower front piece. Stitch the side seams of the lower pieces. Overlock the lower and free short edges of the lower pieces with a narrow rolled hem. Attach the lower to the upper. Overlock the allowance and press it downwards.
