Tech. Description

Sweetheart Neck Gathered Tank Top

Introducing a charming women's tank top pattern featuring a graceful sweetheart neckline formed by structured front plackets with delicate center front gathers and a streamlined silhouette.

When To Wear

This versatile tank top is perfect for a variety of settings, offering comfort and style for:

  • Everyday Elegance: a comfortable yet stylish choice for daily activities or casual outings.
  • Smart Casual Attire: Easily dressed up with tailored trousers or skirts for office-appropriate or semi-formal looks.
  • Layering Essential: a foundational piece that layers beautifully under jackets, cardigans, or blazers.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a fitted silhouette through the bust, gently tapering to the waist for a flattering shape.

Neckline: a distinctive sweetheart neckline, artfully gathered at the center front for a soft, feminine detail.

Front Construction: The sweetheart neckline is elegantly shaped by distinct front plackets, which meet at the center with soft gathers.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with wide, integrated shoulder straps for comfortable coverage.

Back: a clean, smooth back with a gently curved neckline for understated elegance.

Hem: a straight bottom hem for a clean finish, designed to be tucked in or worn out.

Waist: Gently fitted at the natural waistline, enhancing the figure without constriction.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires familiarity with sewing knit fabrics, attaching elastic, and finishing edges with bias binding.

Fabric Recommendations

Select knit fabrics with a moderate stretch for optimal drape and comfort:

  • Knit fabrics with medium stretch, made from natural or blended fibers (e.g., cotton jersey, rayon jersey, modal blends)

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic, 0.5 cm wide
  • Bias binding

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: Hem allowance, back neckline edge, back and front armhole edges, front placket edge from shoulder seam to mark – 1.5 cm, top edge of front – 0 cm, other seams 0.7 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Front placket – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Topstitch elastic to the front according to the markings. Finish the top edge of the front with bias tape. Stitch the resulting corner on the bias tape.
  2. Attach the front to the plackets, clip the seam allowances at the notch, press towards the placket, and serge.
  3. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press seam allowances towards the back, and serge.
  4. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, armhole edges, back neckline edge, and the unfinished edge of the front placket. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
