Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: cotton or blended dress fabrics in contrasting colors. Also needed: concealed zipper, fusible interfacing, bias binding 4 cm wide, buckle 5 cm wide.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance for the dress bottom – 2.0 cm, other seams 1 cm; Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). Inscriptions on the patterns are on the right side.

• From dark fabric:
  • Upper left back part - 1 piece
  • Lower right back part - 1 piece
  • Central front part – 1 piece
  • Belt — 1 piece
• From light fabric:
  • Upper right back part - 1 piece
  • Lower left back part - 1 piece
  • Side left front part - 1 piece
  • Upper right front part – 1 piece
  • Front neckline facing - 1 piece
  • Back neckline facing - 2 pieces
• From fusible interfacing:
  • Back neckline facings, front neckline facing.

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

1. Duplicate pieces with fusible interfacing.
2. Stitch darts on back and front pieces. Press bust darts upwards, waist darts towards the center of the piece.
3. Stitch upper and lower back pieces. Overlock the seam and press upwards. Overlock the center back edge. Stitch the center seam from the zipper notch to the bottom. Press the seam open, pressing the zipper opening. Insert the zipper from the top edge to the notch.
4. Attach the upper right front part to the central part. Overlock the seam and press towards the central part. Stitch the vertical edge of the pleat. Press the seam open and overlock. Stitch the front princess seam from the armhole to the pleat. Clip the seam at the corner of the pleat. Overlock the seam and press towards the central part. Form a box pleat according to the markings. On the right side of the front, stitch a securing line along the upper edge of the pleat.
5. Stitch the shoulder seam. Overlock the seam and press towards the back.
6. Stitch the shoulder seam of the facings. Overlock the seam and press towards the front. Overlock the outer edge of the facings. Place the dress and facing right sides together, aligning the neckline edges. Fold back the facing 5 mm from the edges of the concealed zipper and pin to the upper edge of the dress. On the right side of the dress, fold back the allowances along the zipper and pin to the neckline edge over the facing. Stitch the neckline edge. Clip the seam at the curves, turn the pieces right side out and press. Topstitch the seam allowances to the facing. Attach the facing to the zipper tape.
7. Cut (if not ready-made) bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise right side out and press. Place the binding with the armhole edge right sides together and stitch, fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
8. Stitch the side seams of the back and front. Overlock the seams and press towards the back. Place a bar tack on the side seam at the armhole.
9. Overlock the hem allowance of the dress bottom and press inwards. Topstitch the hem.
10. Fold the belt piece in half lengthwise right sides together and stitch along the long side and one short side. Turn the belt right side out, turn in the allowances of the unstitched section and topstitch 0.5 cm from the edge around the perimeter of the belt. Thread and secure the buckle.
