Fabric & Materials
Fabric recommendations: dense fabrics made of natural or blended fibers (corduroy, suiting fabric). Trim from natural or artificial leather. Also needed: fusible interfacing; lining fabric; zipper; 4 rings (for straps); zipper for inner pocket.
CUTTER'S MUST
If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Seam allowance for topstitching trim 0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).
- From main fabric:
- Front part – 2 pieces
- Bottom part – 1 piece
- Top part – 2 pieces
- Strap – 2 pieces
- From lining fabric:
- Front lining – 2 pieces
- Bottom lining – 1 piece
- Top lining – 2 pieces
- Large pocket lining – 1 piece
- Small pocket lining – 1 piece
- From trim fabric:
- Trim – 1 piece
- From fusible interfacing:
- Front, top, bottom parts and strap.
Sewing Instructions
When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
- Interface the front, top, bottom parts, and strap with fusible interfacing.
- Cut a strip of main fabric 24 cm long and 6 cm wide. Fold it lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch along the long edge. Turn right side out and cut into 4 equal parts (6 cm each). Fold each piece in half, thread through a ring, and topstitch onto the front pieces according to the markings.
- Cut a zipper flap 4 cm long and 3 cm wide. Fold in half along the short side and press.
- Place the flap on the right side of the zipper. Fold the top part and the top lining right sides together. Insert the zipper between them. Align the edges. Stitch the pieces along the zipper teeth, starting the stitch 1 cm from the edges and stopping 1 cm before the end. Turn the pieces right side out.
- Attach the bottom part of the bag to the side edges of the top parts and the flap.
- Mark the location of the inner pocket on the front lining. Interface the area for the zipper. Cut an opening along the pocket entrance, making diagonal cuts 1 – 1.5 cm from the end of the pocket. Fold the allowances inwards. Place the zipper under the edges of the pocket opening so that the teeth are visible. Topstitch the pocket opening close to the edge at a distance of 0.2 cm. Attach the large pocket lining to the upper zipper tape, and the small pocket lining to the lower zipper tape. Stitch the lining edges.
- Attach the bottom part of the bag lining to the side edges of the top lining parts and the zipper.
- Cut a ring holder 6 cm long and 4 cm wide. Fold the allowances inwards along the long side, fold in half crosswise, and press.
- Stitch the front pieces into the bag, simultaneously topstitching the trim and inserting the ring holders.
- Stitch the front lining into the bag lining, leaving an opening for turning. Turn the bag through the opening. Stitch the opening closed.
- Fold the strap lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch along the long edge. Turn the strap right side out and press. Stitch decorative topstitches 0.2 – 0.5 cm from the edge. Thread the end of the strap through the ring, fold under the allowance, and topstitch onto the strap.
