Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: fusible interfacing; a concealed zipper. IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE NOT INCLUDED. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the dress bottom — 2 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
    • Center upper back – 2 pieces
    • Side upper back – 2 pieces
    • Back waistband – 2 pieces
    • Lower back – 2 pieces
    • Upper front – 1 piece
    • Front waistband – 1 piece
    • Lower front – 1 piece
    • Front neckline facing — 1 piece
    • Back neckline facing — 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Front neckline facing — 1 piece
    • Back neckline facing — 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH! Attention! Markings on patterns are made on the right side!

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Stitch the princess seams of the upper back, press allowances towards the center, serge. Attach the waistband to the upper back, press allowances towards the waistband, serge. Stitch darts on the lower back, press depths towards the center. Stitch the upper and lower back pieces together, press allowances upwards and serge.
  3. Serge the center back edges separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the bottom, press allowances open. Insert the concealed zipper.
  4. Stitch the bust dart on the upper front piece, press depth upwards. Lay and secure pleats on the upper and lower front pieces (depths directed towards the center). Attach the waistband to the upper front, press allowances towards the waistband, serge. Stitch the upper and lower front pieces together, press allowances upwards and serge.
  5. Stitch shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  6. Stitch shoulder seams of neckline facings, press allowances open. Serge the outer edge. Place the facing with the garment right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances at curves, turn pieces right side out, smooth, press. Secure the facing to the main garment at shoulder seams and zipper tape.
  7. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding with the armhole edge right sides together and stitch. Clip allowances. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  8. Stitch side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  9. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
