Tech. Description

Raglan Puffed Sleeve Sweatshirt

A hip-length women's sweatshirt in low-stretch knit fabric, with long raglan sleeves gathered along the raglan seams near the neckline and again at the wrist into cuffs. The crew neck, cuffs and hem are finished with folded bands in rib or high-stretch knit.

When To Wear

  • In autumn, winter and early spring with jeans, joggers or a skirt.
  • For weekends and travel, over a T-shirt or under a coat.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose through the body, gathered in at the hips by the hem band.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: Round crew neck with a folded band, stitched into a ring and set in with slight stretching.

Sleeves: Long raglan sleeves, gathered along the front and back raglan seams from a mark up to the neckline, which gives the puffed shoulder. The sleeve hem is gathered into a folded cuff.

Front: One piece cut on the fold.

Back: One piece cut on the fold.

Finishing: Sleeve and side seams stitched in one pass; folded hem band stitched into a ring with its seam placed under the left side seam and attached with slight stretching.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Few pieces and no fastenings; the techniques are gathering on knit fabric, raglan seams and attaching folded bands with even stretching.

Fabric Recommendations

Low-stretch knit fabric made from natural or blended fibres for the body and sleeves; rib knit or high-stretch knit for the neckband, cuffs and hem band.

Additional Supplies

  • Rib knit or high-stretch knit fabric for the bands

Cutter's Must

First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Sleeve — 2 pieces
  • From main fabric 1:

    • Neckline facing – 1 piece
