Cutter's Must
When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
- From main fabric:
- Center Back – 2 pieces
- Back Side – 2 pieces
- Lower Back – 2 pieces
- Center Front – 1 piece
- Front Side – 2 pieces
- Lower Front – 2 pieces
- Sleeve – 2 pieces
- Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
- Back Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
- From fusible interfacing:
- Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
- Back Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
Sewing Instructions
- Fuse interfacing to the Front Neckline Facing and Back Neckline Facing pieces.
- Stitch the inner edges of the front pleats. Overlock and press the seam allowances. Clip the allowance at the corner and fold the pleat, with its depth turned towards the center. Stitch the Front Side to the upper edge of the Lower Front. Overlock this edge, catching the top of the pleat at the same time. Stitch the front princess seam from the armhole down to the pleat. Overlock the allowance and press it towards the center. Slipstitch the top of the pleat to the dress by hand.
- Construct the back in the same way from the Center Back, Back Side and Lower Back pieces. Overlock the center back edges separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the hem. Press seam allowances open. Insert the invisible zipper.
- Stitch the side and shoulder seams. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back.
- Stitch the shoulder seams of the Front Neckline Facing and Back Neckline Facings. Press seam allowances open. Overlock the outer edge. Place the facing onto the right side of the dress and stitch the neckline. Clip the allowances, turn the facing to the wrong side and press. Secure the facing at the shoulder seams and zipper tape.
- Stitch the sleeve seam. Overlock the allowance and press it towards the back. Set the sleeves into the armholes, press and overlock the allowances.
- Overlock the bottom edge of the garment and sleeves, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
