Decorative Panel Coat

Pattern #2019
Tech. Description

Decorative Panel Coat

Introducing a stylish women's coat pattern featuring a striking asymmetric collar, an artfully paneled construction, and integrated pockets, perfect for creating a sophisticated outer layer.

When To Wear

This unique coat offers a blend of elegance and modern flair, making it suitable for:

  • Sophisticated Daily Wear: Elevate your everyday attire with this distinctive and comfortable coat.
  • Professional & Business Casual: Add a polished and confident touch to work ensembles.
  • Evening & Special Events: Drape over an evening dress or smart separates for a refined look.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: An elegant a-line silhouette with a gentle flare, falling to mid-thigh length for a graceful drape.

Neckline & Collar: a dramatic, oversized asymmetric shawl collar that wraps across the chest, creating a unique focal point.

Closure: a single, off-center button closure secures the coat at the front.

Sleeves: Long, set-in sleeves finished with wide, folded cuff details for a refined touch.

Pockets: Seamlessly integrated pockets are discreetly placed within the front panel seams, providing practical utility without interrupting the silhouette.

Back: a clean, paneled back design featuring a distinct horizontal yoke for structural interest.

Hem: An elegant curved and asymmetric hemline that is slightly longer at the sides and dips lower at the front, adding to its contemporary appeal.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern involves precise panel matching, complex collar construction, and the accurate setting of sleeves and a full lining.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose medium-weight woven fabrics that offer both structure and drape for the main coat, with a smooth lining fabric:

  • Crepe
  • Wool blends
  • Twill
  • Satin (for lining)

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • 1 button
  • Lining fabric

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams – 1cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). According to the designer's intention, the lining is made of satin and exactly repeats the contour of the main fabric patterns. All main fabric pieces are interfaced with fusible interfacing.

  • From crepe:
    • Center back piece - 2 pieces
    • Side back piece - 2 pieces
    • Center front piece left - 1 piece
    • Side front piece - 2 pieces
    • Front insert - 1 piece
    • Upper collar – 3 pieces (2 of which are symmetrical)
    • Under collar – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • From satin:
    • Center front piece right - 1 piece
    • Back yoke - 2 pieces
    • Front yoke - 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the back and front yokes of the main fabric and lining pieces. Press seams open. Finish the yoke with the lining.
  2. Stitch the center and side back pieces, as well as the center seam. Press seams towards the center.
  3. Stitch the right and left front pieces. Stitch the collar pieces along the center edge: right and left upper collar, upper and under collar. Attach the under collar to the right front piece along the front vertical edge. Finish the under collar with the upper collar, turn pieces right side out and press. Attach the collar to the back and front. Attach the yoke to the collar attachment seam.
  4. Stitch the sleeve pieces. Set sleeves into armholes, easing the cap.
  5. Stitch the lining pieces. Create a bound buttonhole. Finish the coat with the lining.
