Men's Button Fly Boxer Shorts

Pattern #6134
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS: knitted fabric of medium stretch from natural or blended fibers, or cotton fabric with added elastic fibers. ALSO NEEDED: fusible interfacing; elastic tape 2.5 cm wide, equal to waist circumference; 2 buttons.

CUTTER'S MUST

SEAM ALLOWANCES: bottom hem allowance – 2.0 cm, other seams 0.7 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical parts, as well as color scheme). WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  • From main fabric:
    • Front half - 2 pieces
    • Back half - 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Interface the integrated fly on the left and right front halves with fusible interfacing.
  2. Overlock the front center edge and the fly edge separately on the left and right parts of the front half. Press the fly edge on the right half, stepping back 1.5 cm from the center seam line. Topstitch onto the main piece along the overlocked edge.

Overlock the buttonholes according to the markings. Overlap the left half onto the right, aligning the center lines. Place a perpendicular bar tack, stepping up 2 cm from the bottom of the fly. Topstitch the left half onto the right along the fly fold from the top edge down 5 cm.
  4. Stitch, press open, and overlock the side edges. Stitch, press open, and overlock the center back edge. Stitch, press open, and overlock the inseam edges.
  5. Overlock the top edge, press to the wrong side, and topstitch, leaving an opening for the elastic tape. Thread the elastic tape through the created casing and secure it.
