Knit Cowl Neck Tunic

Pattern #5822
Tech. Description

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
  • BACK PANEL upper part – 2 QTY
  • FRONT PANEL upper part – 1 QTY
  • BACK PANEL lower part – 1 QTY
  • FRONT PANEL lower part – 1 QTY

Tip: Knit fabric pieces should be sewn with a special elastic stitch or directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock. The hem allowance should be topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Overlock the side and bottom edges of the BACK PANEL lower part. Fold and topstitch the bottom edge first, then the side edges.
  2. Stitch and press open the center back seam. Cut the TRIM STRIP (twill tape) in half and attach it to the lower part of the back side edge. Press the seam towards the center seam. Fold the BACK PANEL lower part in half lengthwise. Measure the length of the upper edge of the BACK PANEL lower part (half). Mark this length from the center back seam along the bottom edge and further along the TRIM STRIP. Place NOTCHES on the TRIM STRIP. Stitch the upper and lower BACK PANEL parts. Press the seam downwards.
  3. Overlock the bottom edge of the FRONT PANEL lower part. Fold and topstitch. Create a pleat along the upper edge of the FRONT PANEL lower part. Stitch the upper and lower FRONT PANEL parts. Press the seam upwards.
  4. On the side edges of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL, clip the SEAM ALLOWANCE near the NOTCHES. Stitch the side edges of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL between the NOTCHES. The side seam can be stitched directly on an overlock, trimming the SEAM ALLOWANCE to 0.7 cm. Stitch the shoulder edges. Press all seams towards the BACK PANEL.
  5. Overlock the open side edge of the FRONT PANEL from the lower notch to the hemline, fold and topstitch. On the BACK PANEL, fold and topstitch the open section of the side seam from the lower notch to the seam attaching the lower part (including the TRIM STRIP) with a regular straight stitch.
  6. Overlock the neckline and armhole edges, fold and topstitch. Fold the ends of the TRIM STRIP twice by 0.7 cm and topstitch.
