When To Wear

This dress is designed for comfort and style in warmer weather, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Casual Gatherings: Perfect for daytime events, garden parties, or relaxed outings where comfort meets effortless style.
  • Vacation & Resort Wear: a lightweight and breezy option suitable for holiday travels, beach strolls, or resort activities.
  • Everyday Chic: Easy to dress up or down, offering a versatile garment for comfortable daily wear with a touch of elegance.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a relaxed fit through the body, cinched at the lower hem by a gathered band to create a blouson or bubble silhouette.

Closure: The back of the neckband fastens with two buttons and rouleau button loops.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with armholes finished with bias binding.

Hem: The lower edge of the dress body is gathered into a wide, flat bottom band, providing shape and a distinctive blouson effect.

Length: Designed to fall above the knee, offering a modern and comfortable length.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in applying bias binding for keyholes and armholes, managing gathers, and constructing precise button loops and a faced neckline.

Fabric Recommendations

  • Light dress fabrics made from natural fibers
  • Light dress fabrics made from blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • 2 buttons

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    1. Back – 1 piece on fold
    2. Front – 1 piece on fold
    3. Placket (bottom band) – 1 piece
    4. Facing – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    1. Placket – 1 piece
    2. Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse the upper Facing and the Placket with fusible interfacing.
  2. Cut bias binding for finishing the slits on the Front and Back. The length of the binding should be twice the length of the slit + 2 cm, width 5 cm. Press the binding lengthwise in half, right side out. Mark the slit line on the piece and cut it. Spread the piece so that the slit forms a straight line, place the binding on the right side, aligning the raw edges, and stitch. The seam allowance along the slit is 0.5–0.7 cm, decreasing to 0.2 cm at the bottom of the slit. Fold the binding to the wrong side, enclosing the seam allowances, and stitch in the ditch of the attaching seam.
  3. Along the upper edge of the Front, sew a line of long stitches with loose tension and gather.
  4. Stitch the side seams. Press seam allowances towards the Back and overlock.
  5. Cut bias binding from the main fabric, 4 cm wide and equal to the armhole length. Press the binding lengthwise in half, right side out, align it with the armhole edge and stitch. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold.
  6. Cut a bias strip 2.5 cm wide and 10 cm long. Fold the strip lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch 0.3 cm from the fold. Trim seam allowances close to the stitching, turn the strip right side out and straighten the rouleau. Cut it into loops, each 4 cm long.
  7. Place the Facing pieces right sides together and stitch along the neckline edge, stitching the short side edges at the same time and inserting the loops. Trim seam allowances. Turn right side out and press. Press the lower edges inwards. Stitch the upper edges of the Back and Front to the lower Facing according to the markings. Edgestitch the upper Facing to the lower Facing. Press.
  8. Press the Placket lengthwise in half, right side out. Unfold the Placket and stitch it into a ring. Press seam allowances open. Along the lower edge of the dress, sew a line of long stitches with loose tension and gather. Stitch the outer half of the Placket to the lower edge of the dress. Press seam allowances towards the Placket. Press the raw edge of the inner half of the Placket to the wrong side and stitch in the ditch of the attaching seam.
  9. Sew the buttons onto the Facing.
