Tech. Description

V-Neck Wrap Tunic with Wide Sleeves

A women's pull-on tunic in knit fabric, about mid-thigh length, with a mock-wrap V-neck front. The front is gathered under shoulder yokes and shaped by stitched pleats that meet at the side wrap seam, and the sleeves are set-in, flared and three-quarter length.

When To Wear

  • Over leggings or slim trousers in spring and autumn.
  • For evenings out, with the rhinestone motif at the wrap point.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted tunic with fullness gathered at the front shoulders and drawn into pleats at the side.

Length: About mid-thigh.

Neckline: Deep V formed by the wrap; the edge is serged, turned inside and topstitched, and the topstitching continues down the wrap seam.

Front: A main front and a separate left front, both with 3 cm pleats stitched along marked lines, pleat folds turned downwards. The left front is sewn to the right along the wrap edge and then straight down, so the wrap does not open. The excess fabric at the lower end of the wrap is formed into a box pleat.

Sleeves: Set-in, widening towards the three-quarter-length hem.

Back: Two pieces with a centre back seam.

Finishing: Front shoulder yokes; hems of the body and sleeves turned up and topstitched; hotfix rhinestones applied in a circle around the vertical wrap seam to imitate a buckle.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Pleats on two front pieces, gathering into a yoke, a sewn-down wrap seam with a box pleat, and sewing knit fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium or low stretch, from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Hotfix rhinestones

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 2 pieces
  • Front – 1 piece
  • Left front – 1 piece
  • Yoke – 2 pieces
  • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also sew the pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. On the front pieces, lay and stitch the pleats 3 cm along the marked lines. The inner edges of the pleats should be directed downwards. Attach the left front to the main piece. Serge the seam and press. Lay and stitch the pleat on the left side. The seam should be in the inner edge of the pleat and directed downwards.
  2. Stitch the center back seam of the back. Serge the seam and press open.
  3. Along the upper edges of the front, sew a gathering stitch with loosely tensioned stitches and gather. Attach the yoke to the front. Serge the seam and press upwards.
  4. Stitch the shoulder seams, press seam allowances towards the back and serge.
  5. Near the notch on the neckline of the front, clip the seam allowance. Serge the neckline edge, starting the stitch from the left front and ending at the notch on the right side of the front. Turn the serged neckline edge inwards and topstitch.
  6. Attach the left front to the right along the wrap edge and then vertically downwards. Clip the seam allowance diagonally in the lower corner, serge the seam and press towards the right side. Topstitch along the wrap seam, continuing the neckline topstitching. Form the excess fabric in the lower of the wrap into a box pleat and stitch it from the wrong side.
  7. Stitch the side seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press towards the back.
  8. Stitch the sleeve seams. Serge the seams and press.
  9. Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches. Serge the seams and press.
  10. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the sleeve. Fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
  11. On the front, around the vertical seam joining the left and right parts, glue hotfix rhinestones in a circle shape, imitating a decorative buckle.
