When To Wear

  • In spring and autumn as a light top layer over a camisole.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted, shaped by princess seams on the front and darts on the back.

Length: High hip, hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched.

Collar: Stand collar grown on to the side fronts and back, finished with a combined front and back facing. Above the V-shaped edge of the centre panel the collar stays open, forming a deep V at the front. Edges topstitched 0.7 cm.

Front: Two centre front panels, each made of two interfaced layers with the zip caught between them, topstitched 0.7 cm from the seams and joined to the side fronts by princess seams.

Closure: Separating zip at the centre front, from the point of the V to the hem.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves with an eased cap, widening towards the lower edge. The sleeve seam is left open below a notch, and the deep interfaced cuff has a side opening fastened with one button.

Back: Centre back seam, neck darts at the base of the stand and waist darts.

Finishing: Shoulder and side seams overlocked and pressed towards the back; princess seams pressed towards the side seams.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A zip sandwiched between two panel layers, a grown-on stand collar finished with a pieced facing, and cuffs with an opening.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Center Front pieces (outer layer), facings and Cuffs.
  2. Place the Center Front pieces right sides together in pairs, sandwich the separating zipper between them and stitch along the upper, center and lower edges, inserting the zipper at the same time. Turn right side out and press. Topstitch 0.7 cm from the seams. Stitch the Center Front panels to the Side Fronts (princess seams). Overlock the seams and press them towards the side seams.
  3. Stitch the darts on the Back. Press the darts towards the center back. Stitch the center back seam. Press the seam to the left and overlock.
  4. Stitch the shoulder and side seams. Overlock the seams and press them towards the back.
  5. Stitch the facing pieces together. Overlock and press the seams. Overlock the outer edge of the facings. Place the facings on the blouse right sides together and stitch along the edge of the grown-on stand collar and the front neckline, catching the top section of the princess seam. Turn the facing to the wrong side and topstitch 0.7 cm from the edge.
  6. Stitch the sleeve seams up to the notch, overlock and press open. Set in the Sleeves, easing the sleeve cap.
  7. Fold each Cuff in half and stitch the short ends and the section up to the notch. Clip the seam allowance at the notch. Turn the cuffs right side out and press. Stitch the outer layer of the cuff to the sleeve. Fold under the inner layer and topstitch it over the attachment seam.
  8. Overlock the hem of the blouse, press it to the wrong side and topstitch.
  9. Make buttonholes on the cuffs and sew on the buttons.
