Fabric & Materials
Tip: When sewing knit fabrics, use a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm. Topstitch the hem allowance with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.
Cutting Plan
From main fabric:
- Back – 1 piece
- Lower Front – 1 piece
- Upper Front – 1 piece
- Front Placket – 4 pieces
- Sleeve – 2 pieces
Sewing Instructions
- Clip the seam allowance near the notches on the lower edge of the upper front piece. Serge the upper edge and the edge between the notches on the upper front piece. Fold the allowances to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
- Place the front plackets right sides together, inserting the upper front piece between them. Stitch the plackets to the upper front piece. The seam runs from the side edge to the shoulder edge. Fold the plackets to the right side and press. Then treat the plackets as single-layer pieces.
- Clip the allowance between the notches on the upper edge of the lower front piece. Serge the edge, fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
- Twist the upper front piece 1 time and stitch it to the lower front piece. Serge the seam and press.
- Stitch the shoulder seams. Note: The back shoulder seam is 1 cm longer than the front shoulder seam (allowance for finishing the back neckline). Press the seam towards the back.
- Stitch the side seams. Serge the seams and press.
- Stitch the sleeve seams. Serge the seams and press.
- Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches. Serge the seams and press.
- Serge the bottom edge of the garment, the sleeve hems, and the back neckline edge. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
