V-Neck Shaped Bodice Flutter Sleeve Top

Pattern #5637
Tech. Description

Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Top

Introducing a women's sewing pattern for a chic V-neck top featuring delicate flutter sleeves, a shaped lined bodice with bust cups, and a concealed side zipper for a flattering fit.

When To Wear

This versatile top is perfect for warm weather and offers an elegant yet comfortable style, ideal for:

  • Daytime Gatherings: Suitable for casual-chic brunches, luncheons, and social events.
  • Summer & Resort Wear: An excellent choice for vacations, seaside outings, or warm-weather holidays.
  • Garden Parties: Its feminine details and light fabrication make it perfect for outdoor celebrations.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted through the bust and waist, with a subtly relaxed sweep at the lower hem for comfort and style.

Neckline: a flattering deep V-neck in the front, complemented by a wide scoop back.

Sleeves: Short, graceful flutter sleeves formed by the upper front and upper back overlay pieces, softly draping over the shoulders above the cups and narrow straps.

Bodice (Front): Expertly constructed with lined, seamed bust cups (inner cup, outer cup and side part) and an empire waistline, featuring a shaped midriff band (front inset); the lower front has an inverted box pleat at the center.

Back: Designed with a scoop back: the upper back overlays a lined back yoke, followed by a fitted back band (back inset) and a softly gathered lower back.

Closure: a discreet concealed zipper set into the left side seam.

Length: Finishes at hip length, making it versatile for tucking in or wearing untucked.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires careful fitting, precise construction of the multi-paneled bust cups and fitted bodice, and accurate installation of a concealed zipper.

Fabric Recommendations

For the best drape and comfort, consider light to medium-weight fabrics with a natural feel and good breathability:

  • Fabrics made from natural or blended fibers (e.g., linen, cotton blends, rayon blends)

Additional Supplies

  • Concealed zipper
  • Lining fabric (from natural or blended fibers; the main fabric can also be used as lining)
  • Bias binding
  • Fusible interfacing

Cutting Plan

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  5. Stitch the Upper Back and Upper Front together at the shoulder seams. Serge the seam and press towards the back.
  6. Press the bias binding in half lengthwise and bind the neckline edges. Serge the armhole edge, fold under, and topstitch 0.8 cm.

  8. Fold the Upper Front and strap towards the right side of the front. Place the cup pieces right sides together with the lining and stitch along the upper edge. Turn the pieces right side out and press.
  9. On the Lower Front, fold an inverted box pleat. Baste the pleat 0.5 cm from the upper edge. Stitch the Lower Front to the main fabric front bodice. Serge the seam and press it upwards.

Press the right seam towards the front, and press open the left seam, pressing the zipper opening. Insert the zipper. Attach the lining to the zipper tape.
  16. Topstitch the lower edge of the lining into the seam joining the main fabric pieces.
