Pockets: Curved pocket openings in the side front panels, faced with a small pocket lining and topstitched 0.5 cm from the edge, with a large pocket lining behind.

Closure: Zip in the left side seam.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Faced curved pocket openings, a shaped yoke with facings, a side zip and a corded ruched panel with buttonholes and bias casings.

First print the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (90–150 cm) to determine how much fabric you need. Match the notches when stitching!

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Front Skirt Facing and Back Skirt Facing.

Turn the lining to the wrong side and topstitch along the pocket opening 0.5 cm from the edge. Mark the pocket placement on the Bigger Pocket Lining. Align the side front with the markings. Stitch and serge the bottom edges of the lining. Secure the pocket along the side edges.
  3. Stitch the Side Front Skirt to the Center Front Skirt. Serge the seam and press towards the center front. Topstitch 0.5 cm from the seam.
  4. In the middle of the Center Back Skirt, mark and work buttonholes for the cord. Cut the drawstring casings from the main fabric on the bias (45 degrees). Serge the casing along the contour. Mark the casing placement on the center back. Topstitch the long edges of the casing to the center back. Thread the cord through the casings and buttonholes.
  5. Stitch the Back Side Skirt pieces to the Center Back Skirt. Serge the seam and press towards the center back.
  6. Stitch the Back Skirt Yoke to the back. Press the seam towards the yoke. Stitch the Front Skirt Yoke to the front. Press the seam towards the yoke.
  7. Serge the side edges of the front and back. Stitch the side seams of the skirt, leaving an opening in the left side seam for the zipper. Press open the side seams, press the zipper openings. Insert the zipper.
  8. Stitch the facings together at the right side seam and press open. Serge the outer edge of the facings.

Turn the facings to the wrong side and press the upper stitched edge of the skirt. Fold under the facing edges at the zipper and hand-stitch them to the zipper tape. Topstitch the serged edge of the facings into the yoke attachment seam.
  10. Serge the bottom edge of the skirt, fold up and topstitch.
