Tech. Description

Sleeveless V-Neck Center Front Drawstring Ruched Top

A sleeveless women's top for knit or stretch fabric, with a deep V-neck, a centre front seam gathered on a drawstring cord and shoulder seams gathered by cord in the same way. Neckline and armholes are bound with bias binding.

When To Wear

  • In summer with jeans, shorts or a skirt.
  • Under an open jacket or cardigan.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting, sleeveless; the front draws up at the centre when the cord is pulled.

Neckline: Deep V-neck with a rounded point, bound with bias binding folded in half lengthwise. The armholes are finished the same way.

Front: Two front pieces joined by a centre front seam. The seam is pressed open and the allowances are topstitched on both sides to form channels; the front hem is turned up before the seam is stitched. A cord threaded through the channels gathers the front from the hem to the neckline, with the ends hanging below the hem.

Sleeves: None. The shoulder seams are pressed open and topstitched on both sides, and a cord threaded through them gathers the shoulders, with ties hanging at the armhole edge.

Back: Two pieces with a centre back seam.

Finishing: Side seams pressed towards the back; back hem turned up and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. No darts and no fastenings. The work is bias binding on curved edges and drawstring channels made from seam allowances.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric or thin fabrics with elastic fibres.
