Tech. Description

Lace-Up Tiered Ruffle Skirt

A women's long A-line skirt with two tiers of flounces at the hem, a faced waist without a waistband, a zip in the left side seam and cord lacing through eyelets at the top of that seam.

When To Wear

  • In summer with a fitted top, a bodysuit or a tucked-in blouse.
  • For holidays, garden parties and warm evenings.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A-line, close to the body at the waist and hips and widening towards the flounces.

Length: Long, below mid-calf.

Waist: No waistband; the upper edge is finished with an interfaced front and back facing, understitched 0.2 cm from the seam and slipstitched by hand at the zip.

Closure: Zip in the left side seam. Eyelets set along the top of the same seam, with a decorative cord laced through them and tied in a bow.

Skirt: One front and one back panel with side seams. The first flounce is basted to the upper edge of a separate lower skirt section and both are stitched to the skirt; the second flounce is stitched to the lower edge of the lower section. At the front the joining line curves up in an arch, at the back it is straight.

Finishing: Side seams pressed open, flounce seams overlocked and pressed towards the skirt, flounce hems turned up and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Two flounce tiers attached along a curved line on a slippery fabric, a zip in the side seam with a facing, eyelets set by hand tool.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin viscose or silk fabrics.
