Tech. Description

Curved Panel Skirt

A women's flared denim skirt below the knee, built from curved diagonal panels that sweep across the front and back and end in asymmetric flounces. The front has a wrap effect, and the waist is finished with a facing instead of a waistband.

When To Wear

  • In spring, summer and early autumn with T-shirts, shirts and fitted knit tops.
  • With flat sandals or ankle boots for everyday wear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted at the waist and hips, flaring towards the hem through the flounces.

Length: Below the knee, with an uneven flounced hem.

Front: Pieced from an upper gore and four curved inserts joined by stepped diagonal seams. The right front laps over a separate left side panel, and the two are held together along the waist edge.

Skirt: A right front flounce on the diagonal insert, a separate left front flounce on the left side panel, and a back flounce on a back gore.

Back: Assembled from the same curved panels as the front, with a horizontal seam above the back flounce.

Closure: 20 cm zipper in the left side seam.

Waist: No waistband; interfaced facing, understitched 0.2 cm from the seam, its side edges hand-stitched over the zipper tape.

Finishing: Seams overlocked and pressed; the overlocked edges of the flounces and of the front overlap topstitched to the skirt.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Many curved seams that must meet at the notches, flounces set into diagonal seams, a side zipper and a faced waist in denim.

  3. Attach the right front flounce of the front to the diagonal insert, overlock and press the attachment seam.
