Silk Sleep Shorts
Introducing a women's sewing pattern for silk sleep shorts, featuring a soft frilled elastic waist and a clean, easy-to-sew construction.
When To Wear
These versatile shorts are designed for comfort and ease, making them an ideal choice for:
- Loungewear & Homewear: Perfect for relaxing at home or comfortable everyday wear.
- Warm Weather Casual: Light and airy for staying cool during spring and summer days.
- Sleepwear: A soft and unrestrictive option for comfortable nights.
Key Design Features
Silhouette: Relaxed, short cut with a gentle flare, ensuring comfort and freedom of movement.
Waist: A soft elasticated waist with an integrated cut-on casing — the elastic sits below the folded top edge, so the fabric above it stands up into a delicate frill (paperbag effect) around the waist.
Length: Short, micro length for a light and airy feel.
Hem: A clean, simple turned hem at the leg opening.
Level Of Difficulty
Beginner. Involves basic straight stitching, creating an elastic casing, and simple hemming techniques.
Fabric Recommendations
Choose lightweight woven fabrics with a soft hand and good drape for fluid movement:
- Silk or silk-blend fabrics
- Batiste or other fine, lightweight wovens
Additional Supplies
- Elastic tape, equal to your waist circumference
Cutter's Must
- From main fabric:
- 1. Back - 2 pieces
- 2. Front - 2 pieces
Sewing Instructions
- Stitch the inseam and side seams, placing the front and back pieces right sides together. Press seam allowances open.
- Place the shorts halves right sides together. Stitch the center seam, leaving an unstitched section at the back above the fold line of the integrated facing for threading elastic.
- Press the integrated facing to the wrong side, fold under the seam allowance, and topstitch 0.1 cm from the fold. Stitch along the marked line and thread elastic, equal to the waist circumference, through the created casings.
- Fold the hem seam allowance to the wrong side, turn under, and topstitch.
