Tech. Description

Strappy Dress with Cascading Flounce and Slit

Introducing an elegant women's maxi dress pattern featuring a fitted silhouette, delicate spaghetti straps, and a dramatic cascading flounce accentuating a high front slit.

When To Wear

This exquisite dress is perfect for sophisticated occasions that call for a graceful and memorable statement, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Formal Gatherings & Weddings: Its elegant design and luxurious details are ideal for celebratory events.
  • Summer Evening Events: A beautiful option for al fresco dinners or upscale garden parties.
  • Special Occasions: Perfect for any event where you wish to make a distinctive and refined impression.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A sleek, fitted column silhouette extending to a floor-length hem, designed to flatter the figure.

Neckline: A straight-across front neckline, elegantly supported by slender spaghetti straps.

Straps: Delicate, adjustable spaghetti straps provide support and a refined aesthetic.

Front Detail: A striking cascading flounce flows down the center front, starting from the bust line, adding movement and visual interest. It reveals a contrasting inner side, complementing the main fabric.

Slit: A high, graceful slit positioned at the center front, partially concealed by the flounce, allows for ease of movement and a touch of allure.

Back: A clean, straight-across back featuring a discreet center back zipper closure.

Closure: An invisible zipper at the center back ensures a smooth and seamless fit.

Length: Full-length, designed to gracefully brush the floor.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires precision in attaching the cascading flounce, inserting an invisible zipper, and executing narrow hemming techniques on delicate fabrics.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose elegant, lightweight fabrics with good drape, especially those with a contrasting wrong side for the flounce detail:

  • Brocade
  • Satin
  • Crepe
  • Lightweight Jacquard
  • Silk blends

Additional Supplies

  • Zipper

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the darts on the FRONT PANEL.
  2. Finish the straight short and long curved sides of the FLOUNCE with a "French seam": fold the edge to the wrong side by 1cm and topstitch 1mm from the fold. Trim the SEAM ALLOWANCE to 1mm from the stitching, fold again as narrowly as possible, and topstitch into the seam.
  3. Stitch the center front seam, inserting the FLOUNCE between the pieces, with the wide side facing up. Clip the SEAM ALLOWANCE perpendicular to the seam. Stitch the princess seams on the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL, the side seams, and the center back seam down from the mark.
  4. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES for the closure to the wrong side. Place the ZIPPER under the edges of the opening and stitch so that the teeth are not visible.
  5. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCE of the opening to the wrong side and topstitch.
  6. Fold the TRIMS and straps lengthwise in the middle with right sides out and press. Unfold the strip, fold the raw edges to the fold on the wrong side, and fold the strip along this fold. Trim the SEAM ALLOWANCE along the top of the dress to 0.5 cm. Insert the neckline edge into the finished neckline TRIM and topstitch 1 mm from the lower fold. Finish the upper back edge and armholes in the same way.
  7. Topstitch the straps. Sew the front ends under the corners of the FRONT PANEL. Put on the dress, adjust the length of the straps, and sew the back ends to the BACK PANEL.
  8. Finish the hem of the dress with a 1 cm wide turned-under seam.
