When To Wear

  • In spring and summer, with trousers or a straight skirt.
  • Worn open-necked in place of a light jacket.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Shaped by princess seams at the front and back; the side panels are gathered at the waist by elastic.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Collar: Notched collar with lapels, cut on the fold; front facings and a back neckline facing.

Sleeves: Long raglan sleeves, each made of a front and a back half joined by an upper seam. Elastic in a casing a short distance above the hem forms a small frill at the wrist.

Front: Centre front and side front panels joined by princess seams from the raglan seam to the hem. Three buttons.

Back: Centre back seam and princess seams.

Waist: Casing strips stitched to the wrong side of the side front and side back panels, with 15 cm of elastic in each side.

Finishing: Sleeve underarm seam and side seam sewn in one; inner edges of the facings and the hems of body and sleeves sewn by hand.

Intermediate. A notched collar caught between blouse and facings, raglan sleeves and elastic inserted into stitched-on casings.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Center Front Facings, the upper collar and the Back Neckline Facing.
  2. Cut the elastic into 4 parts: 2 × 15 cm for the side panels and 2 × 10 cm for the sleeves.
  3. Stitch the center back seam and the back princess seams (Middle Back to Side Back).
  4. Stitch the front princess seams (Center Front to Side Front).
  5. Place the Front Sleeve and Back Sleeve right sides together with the front and back respectively, and stitch the raglan seams.
  6. Place the front and back right sides together and stitch the upper (shoulder) seam of the sleeves. On the wrong side of the sleeve, stitch the Sleeve Casing Facing along the markings. Insert the elastic and secure one end. Pull the other end to the desired length and secure it as well.
  7. Stitch the sleeve underarm seam and the side seam in one continuous seam.
  8. On the wrong side of the side back and side front panels, stitch the Casing Facing along the markings. Insert the elastic in the same way as on the sleeves.
  9. Stitch the Collar pieces right sides together along the outer edge, turn right side out and, holding the open long edges together, baste the collar into the neckline. Stitch the Back Neckline Facing to the Center Front Facings. Place the joined facings right sides together with the blouse and stitch along the front edges, lapels and neckline, catching in the collar.
  10. Turn the facings to the wrong side, baste and press. Hand-stitch the inner edges of the facings to the seam allowances.
  11. Serge the lower edges of the blouse and sleeves, fold them to the wrong side and hem by hand.
  12. Make buttonholes on the right front and sew the buttons on the left front.
