Fabric Recommendations

Choose fabrics with good drape and body to enhance the skirt's fluid silhouette:

  • Natural or blended fabrics
  • Crepe satin

Additional Supplies

  • 1 zipper
  • 1 button
  • Fusible interfacing for the waistband

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Skirt – 4 pieces
    • Waistband – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing: Waistband.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce the Waistband with fusible interfacing (fusible interfacing is pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
  2. Stitch the center back seam below the zipper opening mark. Stitch the center front seam and the side seams. Press the seam allowances open; press the seam allowances along the zipper opening to the wrong side.
  3. Baste the zipper to the opening seam allowances at the center back, then stitch it from the right side 0.5 cm from the edge.
  4. Pin the Waistband to the upper edge of the skirt, right sides together, and stitch. Press the seam allowances toward the Waistband. Fold the Waistband in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the ends. Turn the Waistband right side out, turn under the inner edge and pin it so that it overlaps the attachment seam by about 2 mm. From the right side, stitch in the ditch of the waistband attachment seam, catching the inner edge.
  5. Work a buttonhole on the left end of the Waistband and sew a button on the right end.
  6. Turn the hem allowance to the wrong side, turn under the raw edge and topstitch 0.5 cm from the edge.
