Tech. Description

Keyhole-Neck Blouse with Bishop Sleeves

A women's pull-on blouse with a round neckline and a keyhole slit fastened with one button and a thread loop, bust darts, a centre back seam and full long sleeves with pleats at the cap and elastic cord at the wrist.

When To Wear

  • With trousers or a skirt for the office.
  • Tucked into a skirt for dinners and evening events.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight body with bust darts on the front.

Neckline: Round neckline with a front keyhole slit. Both are finished without a facing: the allowance is pressed to the wrong side, secured with a dense narrow zigzag stitch and trimmed close to it.

Closure: One button and a thread loop at the top of the slit; a fabric scrap backs the button.

Sleeves: Long full sleeves. Pleats are stitched at the cap and pressed away from the centre of the sleeve; the hem forms a 1 cm casing for an elastic cord.

Front: One piece cut on the fold.

Back: Two pieces with a centre back seam.

Finishing: The hem is turned and finished with the same dense narrow zigzag stitch.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Darts, a slit and edges finished with zigzag stitching, pleated sleeve caps and an elastic casing.

Fabric Recommendations

Light, softly draping blouse fabrics.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the center back seam. Press seam allowances open.
  2. Stitch the front darts, press dart depths downwards.
  3. Cut the slit on the Front. Press the edges of the slit to the wrong side by approx. 2 mm, and from the right side of the blouse, stitch a dense narrow zigzag stitch along each fold.
  4. Stitch the shoulder seams, starting the stitch precisely at the marked neckline edge line. Press seam allowances open.
  5. Press the neckline edge allowance to the wrong side and stitch a dense narrow zigzag stitch along the fold. From the wrong side of the blouse, carefully trim the excess allowance close to the stitching.
  6. Stitch the side seams. Press seam allowances open.
  7. Press the bottom edge allowance of the blouse to the wrong side, and stitch a dense narrow zigzag stitch along the fold.
  8. Along the cap of each sleeve, from the wrong side, stitch the pleats, lay the pleats and press them in the direction away from the center of the sleeve. Baste the pleats along the cap.
  9. Stitch the sleeve seam, leaving the edges open in the area of the hem allowance for inserting elastic cord. Press seam allowances open. Overlock the bottom edge of the sleeve.
  10. Press the sleeve hem allowance to the wrong side and topstitch at a distance of 1 cm. Cut the elastic cord in half, insert each segment of cord into the bottom casing of the sleeve, and sew the ends of the cord together.
  11. Set in the sleeves.
  12. The front slit fastens with a button and a loop. When sewing on the button, place a scrap of fabric on the wrong side of the blouse.
