Sport-Style Skirt with Patch Pockets

A women's straight, lined skirt around knee length with a drawstring waist casing, two large patch pockets with slanted openings on the front and a centre back slit.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer with T-shirts, polo shirts or sweatshirts.
  • For everyday wear and weekends, with flat shoes or trainers.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, gathered slightly at the waist by the drawstring.

Length: About knee length.

Waist: No waistband: a 3 cm cut-on facing at the top edge is turned to the inside and topstitched at 2 cm to form a casing. A self-fabric tie runs through the casing and comes out through two buttonholes on the front; the ends are knotted.

Pockets: Two large patch pockets on the front, reaching from the waist and side seams. The slanted opening is turned under to 1 cm and topstitched close to the edge and at 0.75 cm; the front and lower edges are topstitched the same way, and the side and top edges are caught into the side seam and the casing.

Back: Two back pieces with a centre back seam, open at the bottom as a slit; the slit edges are topstitched and the stitching continues along the seam.

Finishing: Side seams pressed open; 7 cm hem topstitched 6 cm from the lower edge.

Lining: Front and back lining with a slit at the centre back, 2 cm shorter than the skirt, joined at the top edge.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Patch pockets, a drawstring casing, a topstitched back slit and a simple lining joined at the waist.
