Introducing a women's sewing pattern for a classic pencil skirt, designed with a sleek silhouette, a tailored waistband, and a sophisticated back vent for ease of movement.

When To Wear

This versatile pencil skirt is an essential addition to any wardrobe, perfect for:

  • Professional Settings: Ideal for office wear, business meetings, and corporate environments.
  • Smart Casual Occasions: Suited for creating polished everyday looks or semi-formal gatherings.
  • Versatile Styling: A foundational piece that pairs effortlessly with blouses, blazers, and knitwear for various ensembles.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A classic pencil silhouette, fitted through the hips and tapering slightly to the knee for a refined look.

Waist: Features a tailored waistband that sits at the natural waist, providing a clean and polished finish.

Closure: A discreet center back zipper with a button and buttonhole closure at the top of the waistband.

Length: Designed to fall elegantly around knee-length, offering a timeless and appropriate look for multiple occasions.

Back: Includes a center back seam with a functional vent at the hem for comfortable movement and a sophisticated finish.

Lining: Fully lined for a smooth drape, enhanced comfort, and a professional internal finish.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires skills in sewing darts, inserting a zipper, constructing a tailored waistband, creating a back vent, and working with lining fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose medium-weight suiting fabrics with good body and drape that hold their shape well, such as:

  • Wool or wool blend suiting fabrics
  • Blended suiting fabrics (e.g., polyester blends, rayon blends)

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric (in a matching color, 140 cm wide)
  • Fusible interfacing
  • 1 zipper (appropriate length for skirt)
  • 1 button

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
    1. FRONT SKIRT HALF - 1 QTY on fold
    2. BACK SKIRT HALF - 2 QTY
    3. Waistband - 1 QTY
  • From LINING fabric:
    1. FRONT SKIRT HALF - 1 QTY on fold
    2. BACK SKIRT HALF - 2 QTY
  • From FUSIBLE INTERFACING: waistband.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce the waistband with FUSIBLE INTERFACING (Fusible interfacings are ironed onto the wrong side of the piece with a strongly heated iron).
  2. Stitch the center back seam between the slit NOTCHES. Press the edges of the slits to the wrong side.
  3. Stitch the ZIPPER under the edges of the upper slit so that the teeth are not visible.
  4. Stitch the darts and side seams.
  5. On the LINING, stitch the darts and seams. Place the LINING into the skirt, wrong side to wrong side, and baste to the upper edge of the skirt. Sew the fastener allowance to the ZIPPER tapes.
  6. Fold the waistband right sides together with the upper edge of the skirt and stitch, leaving an allowance for the fastener protruding on the right back edge of the waistband. Finish the ends of the waistband. Turn under the inner edges of the waistband and topstitch from the right side into the attachment seam. On the left end of the waistband, make a buttonhole; on the right, sew on a button.
  7. Hem the skirt. Sew the slit allowances to the bottom hem. At the bottom of the LINING, make a hem so that the LINING is 2 cm shorter than the skirt. Turn under the LINING and sew it to the slit allowances.
