Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce the front FACINGS, upper COLLAR, pocket flaps, and back FACING with FUSIBLE INTERFACING (heat-adhesive interfacings are pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
  2. On the FRONT PANELS, stitch and press open the darts, trim the SEAM ALLOWANCES along the pocket openings on the center and lower FRONT PANELS. Baste the pocket openings with cross stitches, precisely aligning the edges of the openings.
  3. On the FRONT PANELS, create WELT POCKETS WITH TWO FACINGS AND FLAPS: neatly stitch the flaps along the side and bottom edges. Topstitch the edges. On the wrong side of the FRONT PANEL, press a strip of FUSIBLE INTERFACING approximately 4 cm wide over the pocket marking.
  4. Fold two pocket FACINGS with the FRONT PANEL right sides together, pin along the marking for the pocket opening, and stitch, ensuring that the longitudinal edges of the FACINGS align with the center line of the pocket marking.
  5. Cut the FRONT PANEL lengthwise between the stitching lines, at the end of the stitching line on the FRONT PANEL, slash diagonally. Be careful not to damage the FACINGS! Press the cut edges away from the openings.
  6. Turn the FACINGS through the slit to the wrong side to form a neat frame, and baste, aligning the folded edges of the FACINGS in the middle of the pocket openings. Stitch into the attachment seams.
  7. Turn the small triangle at the end of the slit to the wrong side and stitch to the FACINGS precisely from the ends of the upper stitching to the ends of the lower, stitch the FACINGS from the side seam. Insert the open edges of the flaps between the FACINGS, stitch into the attachment seams of the upper FACINGS.
  8. From the inside, stitch the pocket bags to the flap attachment SEAM ALLOWANCES and to the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the lower FACING attachment seams. Trim and stitch the pocket bags, evening them out.
  9. Stitch the center back seam, stitch the back relief seams, press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES.
  10. Stitch the shoulder seams.
  11. Attach the lower COLLAR to the neckline; stitch the shoulder seams of the back FACING and front FACINGS, attach the upper COLLAR to the neckline of the FACING and front FACINGS; press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES, slash at the curves.
  12. Place the upper COLLAR, combined with the front FACINGS and back FACING, onto the main garment right side in and stitch the front edges and COLLAR, as well as the armholes; turn out and press; hem the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the upper COLLAR edge to the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the neckline.
  13. From the right side of the garment, turn out and straighten the front edge, COLLAR, and armholes, baste and press. Topstitch along the front edges, COLLAR, and armholes.
  14. Stitch the center front seam from the bottom of the front FACING to the bottom of the garment. Stitch the combined side seams of the FACING and sundress.
  15. Turn up the hem allowance of the sundress, topstitch the bottom of the sundress.
  16. Make buttonholes on the right FRONT PANEL according to the marking and sew on buttons.
