Fabric Recommendations

For the best drape and tailored finish, consider fabrics with some body and a smooth hand:

  • Thin wool fabrics, such as suiting wool or gabardine
  • Silk fabrics, including silk crepe

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric
  • Zipper
  • 1 button
  • Fusible interfacing

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
    1. Skirt panel - 2 QTY
    2. FLAP - 4 QTY
    3. Waistband - 1 QTY
  • From LINING:
    1. Skirt panel - 2 QTY
  • From FUSIBLE INTERFACING: interface the waistband and two FLAP pieces.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch front, back, and side darts, press them towards the center.
  2. Stitch the FLAP, turn it right side out, and topstitch close to the edge. Topstitch the FLAP onto the front dart, closing it.
  3. Stitch the center back seam between the marks for the slit and vent. Insert the ZIPPER.
  4. Stitch the center front seam up to the slit mark. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES open.
  5. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side and hem. Press the integrated vent FACING (left BACK SKIRT HALF) along the fold line to the wrong side and stitch it to the hem. Stitch the longitudinal side of the vent allowance (right BACK SKIRT HALF) as narrowly as possible. Topstitch the left BACK SKIRT HALF diagonally at the top of the vent, catching the vent allowance.
  6. Stitch the seam on the LINING, baste the pleats. Place the LINING inside the skirt, aligning it with the wrong side of the skirt, and baste the upper edges. Fold the LINING at the ZIPPER opening and stitch it to the ZIPPER tape.
  7. Fold the waistband right sides together with the upper edge of the skirt and stitch, leaving the SEAM ALLOWANCE for the fastener protruding at the right back edge of the waistband. Finish the ends of the waistband. Fold under the inner edges of the waistband and topstitch from the right side into the attachment seam. Make a buttonhole on the left end of the waistband, and sew a button on the right end.
  8. Finish the bottom edge of the LINING with a hemmed seam and secure it at the vent.
