Cutter's Must
If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the bottom of the garment and sleeve hem - 3 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical details). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
- From main fabric:
- Back – 1 piece on fold
- Front – 2 pieces
- Upper collar – 1 piece
- Under collar – 1 piece
- Front facing – 2 pieces
- Pocket – 2 pieces
- Back neckline facing – 1 piece
- From fusible interfacing: front facing, back neckline facing, upper collar, sleeve hem.
Sewing Instructions
- Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces. Along the lapel fold line on the front piece, apply a 1 cm wide grainline stay (from fusible interfacing). Stitch darts on the front piece. Press dart allowances towards the center front.
- Overlock the pocket along the contour. Fold the upper allowance inwards and topstitch. Fold the pocket allowances inwards and press. Place the pocket on the front piece according to the markings and topstitch.
- Stitch shoulder and side seams of the coat simultaneously with the sleeve seams. Overlock allowances and press towards the back.
- Place the upper collar on the under collar, right sides together, and stitch along the ends and outer edge. Start and end the stitching strictly at the marked collar attachment seam line. Trim seams at corners, clip at the mark. Turn the collar right side out, shape, and press.
- Stitch and press open shoulder seams of the back neckline facing and front facing. Overlock the outer edge.
- Place the front facing on the right side of the front piece, right side down, pin, and stitch along the front edge. Stitch upwards to the notch indicating the end of the collar attachment. Trim seams at corners. Topstitch the seam allowance of the front edge: in the fastener area – onto the front facing, in the lapel area – onto the front piece. Position the stitching 0.2 cm from the seam. Turn the front edges right side out, straighten seams.
- Attach the under collar to the jacket neckline, and the upper collar to the neckline edge of the back facing and front facing. Secure the collars together at the neckline attachment seam.
- Overlock the bottom edge of the coat and the sleeve hem. Fold the allowance inwards and hem with blind stitches.
- On the right front piece, make buttonholes, and on the left front piece, sew on buttons.
