Tech. Description

Pleated Front Blouse

A sophisticated women's blouse pattern featuring elegant front pleats at the neckline and voluminous elbow-length sleeves gathered into an elastic casing at the hem.

When To Wear

This versatile blouse is perfect for various settings, offering comfort and refined style for:

  • Casual Chic Outings: Pair with jeans or skirts for an elevated everyday look.
  • Office & Business Casual: Suitable for a professional yet relaxed work environment.
  • Daytime Events: An excellent choice for brunches, luncheons, or semi-casual gatherings.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed and straight-cut, offering a comfortable, loose fit through the body.

Neckline: a graceful round neckline finished with bias binding and accentuated by soft pleats at the center front, turned towards the center.

Closure: a small keyhole slit at the center back neck, bound with bias binding and fastened with a button and a fabric loop.

Sleeves: Elbow-length, featuring gentle gathers at the shoulder to create subtle volume, finished with an elastic casing at the hem (no separate cuff).

Back: Cut on the fold, with shoulder darts and the keyhole closure.

Hem: Straight hemline, falling to approximately hip length.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves techniques such as creating pleats, working with bias binding for the back slit and neckline, forming a button loop, and creating an elasticated casing for the cuffs.

Fabric Recommendations

This design is best suited for light to medium-weight fabrics with a good drape, such as:

  • Silk fabrics from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • 1 button
  • Elastic tape, 0.5-0.8 cm wide

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns are without seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance at the bottom edge of the garment and sleeve hem — 2 cm; other allowances - 1 cm. Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the shoulder darts and press them towards the center. Fold and baste the pleats at the front neckline (pleats turned towards the center).
  2. Cut the slit on the Back along the marked line. Cut a bias binding from the main fabric 4 cm wide and a length equal to double the slit length + 4 cm. Fold the binding in half lengthwise and press. Press the outer raw edges towards the center fold. Finish the slit with bias binding.
  3. Stitch the side and shoulder seams of the blouse, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
  4. Cut a bias strip 3 cm wide and 5 cm long. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and stitch 0.3 cm from the fold. Trim allowances and turn the piece right side out. Adjust the loop length.
  5. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the neckline length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise right side out and press. Place the binding on the right side of the neckline, raw edges together, and stitch. Clip allowances. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold, inserting the loop. Press the seam.
  6. Stitch the sleeve seam, overlock the allowance and press towards the back. Along the sleeve cap, stitch with a loose (long) stitch and gather. Overlock the lower edge of the sleeve. Fold the allowance inwards and topstitch, forming a casing. Thread elastic tape through the casing and secure the ends.
  7. Set the sleeves into the armholes, press allowances and overlock.
  8. Overlock the bottom edges of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  9. Sew on the button.
