Sewing Instructions
- Fuse interfacing to the corresponding pieces.
- Stitch the darts on the Upper Back and Lower Back pieces. Press the dart allowances towards the center back. Stitch the darts on the Lower Front. Press the dart allowances towards the center.
- Lay and secure the pleats on the Upper Center Front. Overlock the lower edge of the Neckline Facing. Place the Neckline Facing and the Upper Center Front right sides together and stitch along the upper (sweetheart) edge. Clip the seam allowances, turn the facing to the wrong side, ease out the edge, press, and baste it to the main piece along the raw edges.
- Stitch the Upper Side Front pieces to the Upper Center Front, press the seam allowances towards the center and overlock. Stitch the Front Inset to the lower edge of the upper front, press the seam allowances upwards and overlock.
- Stitch the side and shoulder seams of the upper part of the dress, press the seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
- Stitch the side seams of the Back Peplum and Front Peplum, press the seam allowances open and overlock. Overlock the lower edge and the center front edges of the Front Peplum pieces. Press the allowances of the center front edges to the wrong side and topstitch.
- Stitch the side seams of the Lower Front and Lower Back, press the seam allowances towards the back and overlock. Place the peplum on the lower part of the dress and baste along the upper edge.
- Stitch the upper and lower parts of the dress together. Press the seam allowances upwards and overlock.
- On the left Lower Back, trim 5 cm off along the vertical edge of the vent. On both Lower Back pieces, interface the vent area from the wrong side. On the right side, mark the center back seam line (vent fold line). Press the left vent extension along the fold line; on the right piece, press only the 6 cm vent allowance to the wrong side. Align the pieces along the center back seam and baste along the upper edge of the vent. Overlock the vent allowances. Stitch the center back seam of the Back Peplum from the mark to the lower edge, clip the seam allowances at the mark, press open and overlock in the lower part. Stitch the center back seam of the dress from the zipper mark to the corner of the vent. Clip the seam allowance at the vent corner on the right piece. Press the center back seam allowances open and overlock them together with the raw edges of the peplum; press the vent and secure it with a line of machine stitching from the right side. Insert the concealed zipper.
- Stitch the shoulder seams of the Back Neckline Facing and Front Neckline Facing, press the seam allowances open. Overlock the outer edges. Place the facings on the upper part of the dress right sides together and stitch around the neckline. Clip the seam allowances on curves, notch at the corners, turn to the wrong side and press. Tack the facing to the zipper tape and to the shoulder seams.
- Stitch the Sleeve seam, press the seam allowances towards the back and overlock. Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches. Press and overlock the seam allowances.
- Overlock the lower edges of the dress and sleeves, press to the wrong side and topstitch. Press the hem allowance of the peplum to the wrong side and topstitch.
