Pattern #4357
Tech. Description

Yoked Collared Button-Front Belted Dress

Introducing a chic, made-to-measure sewing pattern for a sleeveless dress featuring a crisp collared neckline, a distinctive yoked bodice, and a flared, color-blocked skirt cinched by a separate belt.

When To Wear

This versatile dress pattern is designed for a polished look suitable for:

  • Smart Casual Gatherings: Ideal for brunches, daytime events, or sophisticated social occasions.
  • Professional Settings: Its structured collar and tailored silhouette make it appropriate for office wear and business casual environments.
  • Seasonal Celebrations: A stylish choice for spring and summer festivities, offering both comfort and elegance.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Features a fitted bodice that gracefully transitions to a defined waist, flowing into a flattering flared A-line skirt.

Collar & Neckline: A sharp, classic collared neckline with a stand, complemented by a partial button-front placket on the bodice.

Yokes: Distinctive front and back yokes provide tailored structure and an excellent opportunity for creative color blocking.

Sleeves: A sleeveless design, perfect for warmer climates or elegant layering with a cardigan or jacket.

Waist: A defined waistline, thoughtfully designed to be accentuated by a separate belt threaded through functional belt loops.

Hem: The skirt finishes above the knee with a gently flared hemline, adding a playful yet sophisticated touch.

Construction: The garment is engineered with three distinct fabric sections, allowing for striking color-blocked designs as seen in the example.

Closure: Features a partial button placket at the front bodice, combined with a discreet hidden zipper for easy wear.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in constructing collars with stands, attaching yokes, creating a button placket, inserting a hidden zipper, and assembling multiple fabric sections.

Fold the COLLAR STAND pieces right sides together, insert the finished COLLAR between them, align NOTCHES, and stitch, simultaneously stitching the ends of the COLLAR STAND. Start and end the stitching strictly at the marked seam line for attaching the COLLAR STAND. Turn the finished COLLAR right side out and press.
  3. Stitch the center back seam. Overcast the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press it to the left side. Stitch the princess seams. Overcast the SEAM ALLOWANCES and press them towards the center panels. Attach the lower parts to the FRONT PANEL and BACK PANEL. Overcast the SEAM ALLOWANCES and press them downwards.
  4. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCE of the inner placket to the wrong side and press. Topstitch the folded edge onto the YOKE. Place the right YOKE over the left, aligning the center lines, and secure along the lower edge. Attach the YOKE to the FRONT PANEL. Overcast the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press it downwards. Attach the BACK YOKE to the BACK PANEL. Overcast the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press it upwards.
  5. Stitch and overcast the shoulder seams. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL.

Fold the BIAS BINDING to the wrong side, clip the seams, and topstitch along the fold onto the main piece. Press the seam.
  8. Overcast the left side seams separately, stitch them from the mark downwards, and press the SEAM ALLOWANCES open. Insert the ZIPPER. Stitch the right side seam, press the SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL, and overcast.
  9. Overcast the hem of the dress. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCES inwards and topstitch.
  10. Sew on buttons.
  11. Fold the BELT LOOP piece in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long edge. Turn right side out, centering the seam, and press. Cut into the required number of BELT LOOPS. Attach the BELT LOOPS at the waist level.
  12. Fold the BELT piece in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch, leaving a small opening for turning. Trim SEAM ALLOWANCES at the corners, turn right side out, and press. Sew the opening closed. Thread the BELT through the BELT LOOPS.
