  • Dress fabrics made from blended fibers (e.g., poly-blends, stretch gabardine)

  1. Fuse the upper collar with fusible interfacing.
  2. Stitch the princess seams of the front and back. Overlock the seam allowances and press them towards the center.
  3. On both back pieces, fuse the vent from the wrong side. On the right side, mark the center seam line (the fold line of the vent). Overlock the center seam allowance simultaneously with the vent edge. Stitch the center seam of the back up to the vent corner. Clip the corner of the vent seam allowance. Press the center seam allowance and the vent to the left side. Press the right side of the vent 1 cm to the wrong side and topstitch. Topstitch the vent seam allowances along the top with a machine stitch.
  4. Fold the collar pieces right sides together and stitch around. Turn the collar to the right side and press.
  5. Process the loop. Stitch the shoulder seams of the outer and inner yokes. Press the seam allowances open. Fold the inner and outer yokes right sides together. Insert the collar between them. Stitch the yokes along the center edge and neckline, inserting the loop. Turn the yokes to the right side and press. Attach the yokes to the front and back. Overlock the seam allowances and press them downwards.
  6. Cut a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 3 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the trim strip with the armhole edge right sides together and stitch. Fold the trim strip to the wrong side, clip the seams, and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  7. Stitch the right side seam. Overlock the seam allowances and press them towards the back. Overlock the seam allowances of the left side seam and stitch the section under the armhole and from the mark to the bottom. Press the seam allowances open. Insert the zipper.
  8. Overlock the bottom of the dress, fold inwards, and topstitch.
  9. Sew on the button.
