Fitted Dress with Paneled Skirt and Sleeves

Introducing an elegantly fitted dress pattern featuring a distinct wide square neckline, short sleeves, and a layered, paneled skirt with curved overlapping tiers.

When To Wear

This dress is perfectly suited for semi-formal and celebratory occasions, offering a refined yet stylish choice for:

  • Cocktail Parties & Dinners: Its sophisticated silhouette and unique skirt detailing make it ideal for evening events.
  • Business & Professional Settings: a polished and contemporary option for work functions or important meetings.
  • Special Occasions: Perfect for weddings (as a guest), graduations, or any event where elegant attire is desired.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a tailored, fitted silhouette through the bodice and waist, leading to a pencil-style skirt with layered front tiers.

Neckline: Features a wide, structured square neckline at the front with a front inset, framed by wide facing bands that extend over the shoulders.

Sleeves: Short, self-faced cap-style sleeves (each made of back and front sleeve pieces), offering modest shoulder coverage.

Waist: a defined waistline is accentuated by a pleated, lined waistband fastened with hooks and eyes.

Skirt: The front of the skirt showcases an intricate design of faced, curved overlapping tiers, one of them with pleats. The back is a simpler, fitted pencil skirt style.

Back: a clean, fitted back with a center seam, featuring a hidden zipper closure and a back vent for ease of movement.

Length: Designed to fall around the knee, offering a classic and versatile length.

Closure: a concealed zipper closure is located at the center back seam.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires attention to detail for the fitted bodice, complex faced, layered skirt construction, and the insertion of a hidden zipper.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose fabrics with some body and drape that will hold the skirt's shape and panels well:

  • Dense dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric
  • Fusible interfacing
  • Hidden zipper
  • 3 hooks and eyes

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the dress bottom and top edge allowance for the front insert – 3 cm; slit allowance – 6 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Inscriptions on the patterns are made on the right side!
