Sheath Dress with Stand Collar

Introducing a sophisticated women's sheath dress pattern, featuring a stand collar open at the front above a cut-out neckline, long sleeves gathered into buttoned cuffs, and a sleek, fitted silhouette.

When To Wear

This versatile dress is perfect for a range of occasions, offering both style and sophistication:

  • Professional & Business Events: Its structured design and elegant lines make it ideal for the workplace or formal meetings.
  • Evening & Cocktail Gatherings: The unique stand collar and keyhole cutout add a chic touch suitable for after-hours events.
  • Special Occasions: A refined choice for celebrations, dinners, or any event where you want to make a stylish impression.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A sleek, fitted sheath silhouette that contours the body, ending at knee level.

Neckline & Collar: A stand collar that is open at the front, set on the side front and back panels; below it the center front panel ends in a lower, square neckline, creating a cut-out effect. The center front has a facing cut in one, and the side fronts are finished with neckline facings.

Closure: A concealed zipper in the center back seam.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves gathered at the lower edge into cuffs, with a slit in the sleeve seam; the cuffs fasten with one button each.

Detailing: Shaping is achieved through princess seams on both the front and back, plus a center back seam.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern involves skills such as accurate fitting of princess seams, concealed zipper insertion, construction of a stand collar with front facings, and gathering sleeves into cuffs.

Important Information

When sewing, pay attention to the notches — they must match.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to one Stand Collar, the Front Neckline Facings and the Cuffs.
  2. Stitch the princess seams of the back (Center Back to Side Back). Press seam allowances toward the center and finish the edges.
  3. Finish the center edges of the back separately. Stitch the center back seam from the neckline to the first mark and from the second mark to the hem. Press seam allowances open. Insert the concealed zipper.
  4. Overlock the edge of the facing cut in one with the Center Front, press it to the wrong side, and baste it in place along the princess seam edges.
  5. Overlock the outer edge of each Front Neckline Facing. Place the facing and the Side Front right sides together, insert the Center Front between them, and stitch the front princess seams. Press seam allowances toward the center and finish. Turn the facing to the wrong side, straighten, and press.
  6. Stitch shoulder seams. Press seam allowances toward the back and finish.
  7. Place the Stand Collar pieces right sides together and stitch along the upper and front edges. Start and finish stitching exactly at the marked attachment line. Clip curves, trim corners, turn right side out, and press.
  8. Stitch the outer Stand Collar to the front and back neckline, right sides together, matching the notches. Press the seam allowances toward the collar. Turn under the open edge of the inner Stand Collar and stitch it down over the attachment seam.
  9. Stitch side seams. Press seam allowances toward the back and finish.
  10. Sew a gathering stitch along the lower edge of the sleeve and gather slightly. Finish sleeve edges separately. Stitch the sleeve seam from the armhole to the slit mark, press seam allowances open. Topstitch the slit at 0.1 cm from the fold. Insert sleeves into armholes, press and finish.
  11. Place the Cuff right sides together (folded) and stitch the side edges, starting and finishing exactly at the marked attachment line. Turn right side out, straighten, and press. Attach the outer cuff to the sleeve. Turn under the inner cuff edge and stitch it down over the attachment seam.
  12. Finish the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side, and stitch.
  13. Make buttonholes on the cuffs and sew on the buttons.
