A lined, sleeveless women's vest reaching the upper thigh, with a wrap front, a shawl collar cut in one with the fronts, two large patch pockets and a separate self-fabric tie belt. No buttons.

When To Wear

  • Over shirts, blouses and fine knitwear in spring and autumn.
  • With trousers or a straight skirt, as a lighter alternative to a jacket at the office.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, with bust darts on the fronts pressed upwards, gathered in at the waist by the belt.

Length: Upper thigh.

Collar: Shawl collar cut in one with the fronts and joined at the centre back seam, set into the back neckline with clipped corners. The facings carry the same collar; the roll line is stabilised with a 1 cm fusible stay tape.

Sleeves: Sleeveless with extended shoulders; the armholes are finished with the lining.

Front: Wrap front with interfaced front facings, held closed by the tie belt.

Pockets: Large patch pockets on the lower fronts, the top edge turned in 2 cm and topstitched, the side edge caught into the side seam.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with an interfaced back neck facing.

Waist: Tie belt from one piece cut on the fold, folded lengthwise, stitched around the edges and turned out.

Lining: Full lining cut from the front and back pieces minus the facing widths, stitched to the facings, armholes and hem; the vest is turned through an opening in the left side seam of the lining. Hem allowance 3 cm.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A cut-on shawl collar with a centre back seam on both the vest and the facing, set in with clipped corners, a stay-taped roll line, patch pockets and a full bag lining.

Fabric Recommendations

Suiting fabrics from natural or blended fibres.

  8. Press the vest hem allowance to the wrong side.

  10. Turn the vest right side out through the opening in the lining. Stitch the opening closed.
  11. Fold the Waistband (tie belt) in half lengthwise, right sides together. Stitch around the edges, leaving an opening for turning. Trim the allowances, turn right side out and press. Stitch the opening closed.
