Choose fabrics that support structure and fluid drape:
These materials enhance the sculptural quality of the train and ensure a smooth fitted upper silhouette.
From Main Fabric (Satin):
From Fusible Interfacing:
From Lining Fabric:
Before cutting your fabric:
Apply fusible interfacing to the Front Skirt Facing and Back Skirt Facing pieces.
Stitch the Front Skirt to the Side Back Skirt panels, then stitch the Side Back Skirt panels to the Center Back Skirt panels.
Press the seam allowances and overlock.
Stitch the center back seam from the zipper marking down to the marking for the Train insertion, leaving the lower part of the seam open for the Train.
Press the seam allowances open and overlock.
Insert the zipper into the upper section of the center back seam.
Ensure precise alignment at the waistline and a smooth transition into the stitched seam below.
Assemble the Front Skirt Lining, Side Back Skirt Lining and Center Back Skirt Lining in the same sequence as the main fabric.
Leave the center back seam open in the zipper area and in the Train area.
Press the seam allowances and overlock where necessary.
Stitch the interfaced Front Skirt Facing and Back Skirt Facing to the upper edge of the lining, aligning all notches.
Press the seam allowances toward the lining.
Treat the facing and lining as one unit for further construction.
Place the main skirt and the facing–lining unit right sides together.
Insert the zipper edges between the layers and stitch along the waistline, enclosing the upper edge of the skirt.
Turn the facing and lining to the inside.
Understitch the facing to the seam allowances where possible.
Press the waistline carefully.
Position the Train in the open lower part of the center back seam.
Insert the Train between the main fabric and the lining, aligning all corresponding edges and notches precisely.
Stitch the seam, enclosing the seam allowances between the main fabric and the lining to achieve a clean, fully finished edge.
Ensure the Train forms a smooth, continuous transition into the skirt and falls evenly.
Secure the lining to the zipper tape neatly by hand or machine, ensuring the zipper operates freely.
Close any remaining opening in the lining.
Finish the hem of the skirt with a 2 cm allowance:
Turn the hem to the wrong side and sew by hand for an invisible finish.
Finish the lining hem separately, ensuring it remains slightly shorter than the main skirt.
Press the garment thoroughly, shaping the seams and ensuring the Train falls evenly and smoothly.
