Cutter's Must

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Center back piece - 2 pieces
    • Side back piece – 2 pieces
    • Back waistband – 2 pieces
    • Lower back piece – 2 pieces
    • Center front piece - 2 pieces
    • Side front piece - 2 pieces
    • Front waistband - 1 piece
    • Lower front piece - 1 piece on fold
    • Neckline facing — 2 pieces
  • From lining fabric:
    • Center back piece - 2 pieces
    • Side back piece – 2 pieces
    • Center front piece - 2 pieces
    • Side front piece - 2 pieces

    Back pieces and side front pieces are cut according to the main fabric patterns.

  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Neckline facing — 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Interface the pieces with fusible interfacing. Also, interface the front area at the cutout mark.
  2. Stitch the princess seams of the upper back, press allowances towards the center.
  3. Stitch the princess seams of the upper front, press allowances towards the center. Stitch the center front seam. Press allowances open. Form and secure the pleats on the front, with depths directed away from the center.
  4. Stitch the side seams of the upper parts, press allowances open.
  5. Stitch the princess seams of the upper front and back lining, press allowances towards the center. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back.
  6. Place the main fabric and lining right sides together and stitch the armhole and front neckline, clipping the allowance at the front mark. Clip allowances at curves, turn the lining to the wrong side and press. Secure the lining to the main fabric along the center back seam, neckline edges, and lower edge. Then treat as one piece.
  7. Stitch the darts on the lower back pieces. Press depths towards the center. Attach the waistband to the lower back, press allowances towards the waistband, serge. Stitch the darts on the lower front piece, press depths towards the center. Attach the waistband to the lower front, press allowances upwards and serge.
  8. Stitch the side seams of the lower parts. Press allowances towards the back and serge. Stitch the upper and lower parts of the dress. Serge allowances and press downwards.
  9. Place the neckline facings right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances, turn to the right side and press. Place the outer facing with the garment right sides together and attach to the front and back, matching marks. Press allowances towards the facing. Turn under the open edges of the outer and inner facings to the wrong side and topstitch into the seam of attaching the outer facing, stitching the free sections together.
  10. Serge the center back edges separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the bottom, press allowances open. Insert the zipper.
  11. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
