Sewing Instructions
- MAKING PIPING. Stitch the strips together, press the seams open. Fold the resulting strip in half, insert the cord inside, and stitch along the contour of the cord.
- ZIPPER POCKETS. Fuse the WELT with FUSIBLE INTERFACING, fold in half lengthwise, and press. Fuse the pocket placement area with FUSIBLE INTERFACING. Mark a line on the WELT defining its finished width. Stitch the piping to the outer side of the WELT. Place the WELT on the right side of the FRONT PANEL, aligning the pocket marking line with the line on the WELT. The outer side of the WELT should match the right side of the FRONT PANEL. Stitch the WELT. Cut the pocket opening in the middle between the marking lines, making diagonal cuts towards the pocket marking corners. Turn the WELT to the wrong side. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES open. Place the ZIPPER under the pocket opening. From the right side of the FRONT PANEL, stitch the ZIPPER 0.1cm from the pocket opening. Stitch the small pocket bag to the bottom tape of the ZIPPER and turn down. Stitch the large pocket bag to the top tape of the ZIPPER. Stitch the pocket bag edges. The pocket bag edges should be caught in the waistband attachment seam.
- BACK POCKET. Stitch the yoke pieces. Stitch the pocket bag to the right yoke, inserting the piping. Stitch the pocket bag to the right BACK PANEL, turn out, press, and topstitch the hook-and-loop tape. Stitch the back panels. Stitch the pocket bags. Stitch the yokes to the back panels. Place bar tacks at the pocket opening. Topstitch the center seam on the left panel.
- ASSEMBLING THE UPPER PART. Press the hem allowance, turning up 1cm first, then 4.5cm. Stitch the side seams up to the slit marking. Topstitch. Stitch the front center seams. Topstitch on the left panel. Stitch the inseams.
- WAISTBAND. Mark the elastic stitching lines on the waistband. Between the stitching lines, at the level of the center seam of the FRONT PANEL, overcast 2 buttonholes for the drawstring. The distance between the buttonholes is 8cm. Stitch the waistband and elastic tape into a loop separately. Insert the elastic tape into the waistband, stretch to the length of the waistband, and make 2 topstitches. Stitch the waistband to the shorts, catching the elastic in the seam.
- HEMMING THE BOTTOM. Turn the hem allowance to the right side and stitch to the sides of the slit. Turn the allowance to the wrong side and topstitch the hem.
- Press the finished shorts.
- Insert the drawstring into the waistband.
