When To Wear

This elegant dress is versatile for various occasions requiring refined style:

  • Professional Settings: Ideal for business meetings, conferences, or office wear where a polished look is desired.
  • Cocktail & Evening Events: Perfect for dinners, semi-formal gatherings, or cocktail parties due to its elegant drape and tailored fit.
  • Special Occasions: Suitable for weddings (as a guest), graduations, or any event where you want to make a chic and memorable impression.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a classic sheath silhouette, gently fitted to the body, creating a flattering and refined profile.

Neckline: a softly rounded high neckline, finished with a facing at the back.

Front Detail: the front is made of three parts: a diagonal seam runs from the shoulder across the bodice to the opposite hip; the left front has a finished, pleated upper edge, and a pleated bow is set into the seam between the center front and the right front.

Sleeves: short cut-on cap sleeves; the armholes are finished with bias binding.

Back: a clean back shaped with darts, with a center back seam.

Closure: an invisible zipper in the center back seam.

Length: Designed to fall at or just above the knee, offering a sophisticated and appropriate length for diverse settings.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in precise seam matching, forming pleats, invisible zipper insertion, and bias-bound armholes.

Choose dress fabrics with good drape that can hold soft folds:

  • Dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers (e.g., crepe, silk blends, lightweight wool suiting)

Additional Supplies

  • Invisible zipper
  • Bias binding, 4 cm wide
  • Fusible interfacing

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse fusible interfacing to the corresponding pieces.
  2. Stitch the darts on the Back pieces. Press the darts towards the center of the piece.
  3. Serge the upper edge of the Left Front. Press the edge to the wrong side and topstitch. Fold and stitch the pleats from the wrong side according to the markings. Fold the finished upper edge to the inside once more at the panel seam.
  4. On the Center Front, serge the neckline section of the panel seam edge (from the shoulder to the first notch). Stitch the Center Front and Left Front together. Press the seam towards the Center Front and serge. Fold the neckline section to the inside and topstitch.
  5. Fold the Bow right sides together and stitch the short edges. Turn the piece right side out, shape, and press. Fold and secure the pleats according to the markings, with the inner folds of the pleats pointing downwards.
  6. Stitch the Center Front and Right Front together, inserting the Bow between the pieces at the notches. Press the seam allowances towards the Center Front and serge.
  7. Serge the center back edges. Insert the invisible zipper from the upper edge to the notch. Fold the lower end of the zipper aside and stitch the center back seam from the notch downwards. Press the seam allowances open.

Place the binding on the right side along the armhole edge and stitch. Turn the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold onto the dress. Press the seam.
  11. Stitch the side seams. Press the seams towards the back and serge.
  12. Press the hem allowance of the dress to the wrong side, fold under another 1 cm, and topstitch.
