When To Wear

This dress is designed for ease and style, making it a perfect choice for:

  • Casual Gatherings: Its relaxed fit and vibrant potential make it ideal for daytime social events.
  • Summer Outings: The sleeveless design and airy silhouette are perfect for warm weather and outdoor activities.
  • Vacation & Resort Wear: Effortlessly stylish for travel and leisure, offering comfort and flair.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed a-line silhouette, designed to fall loosely from the gathered neckline for a comfortable and flowing fit.

Neckline: a softly gathered halter neckline that creates gentle drapes across the bust; the armhole edges are finished with elastic casings.

Tie Detail: a long self-fabric tie (about 2 m) wraps around the halter neckline and is tied in a bow at the back of the neck.

Back: a center back seam, with the facing topstitched to the upper back in a V shape.

Hem: a straight, topstitched hemline.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires precise work with facings, creating an elastic casing, and careful construction of the self-fabric tie.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose light to medium-weight fabrics with excellent drape to achieve the intended flowing silhouette:

  • Well-draping woven fabrics (natural or blended fibers)
  • Thin knit fabrics

Additional Supplies

  • Cord elastic (hat elastic) or elastic thread

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Dress – 1 piece on fold
    • Facing – 1 piece
    • Tie – 1 strip 13 cm wide and approx. 2 m long (cut by measurement, no pattern piece)

Sewing Instructions

  1. Overlock the armhole edges and the bottom edge of the Dress, and the side and bottom edges of the Facing.
  2. Place the Facing and the Dress right sides together and stitch the top edge. Clip the seam allowances.
  3. Press the armhole seam allowance and the side edge of the Facing to the wrong side and topstitch 0.5 - 0.7 cm from the edge. Press the bottom edge seam allowance to the wrong side and topstitch 0.5 - 0.7 cm from the edge.
  4. Cut the cord elastic 2 – 3 cm shorter than the armhole edge, insert it into the resulting casing and secure.
  5. Fold the Facing to the wrong side and topstitch it to the Dress along its bottom edge.
  6. Stitch the center back seam. Press and overlock the seam allowances.
  7. Cut the Tie 13 cm wide and approximately 2 meters long. Fold it in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long side and one short side. Turn the Tie right side out, tuck the seam allowances of the unstitched section inside, and topstitch 0.1 cm from the edge. Tip: the armhole allowance can also be topstitched using elastic thread; in this case the cord elastic is not needed.
