Gathered Neck Blouse with Knotted Ties

Introducing a women's sleeveless blouse pattern featuring a high neckline gathered with several rows of stitching into a soft frill, a keyhole front slit and a bunch of narrow ties with knotted ends.

When To Wear:

  • Warm-Weather Casual: Perfect for stylish everyday wear in warmer climates.
  • Holiday & Resort Style: An ideal piece for vacation wardrobes, offering comfort and elegance.
  • Elevated Casual Outings: Pair with jeans or shorts for a smart yet relaxed look for social events or brunches.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a comfortable, relaxed-fit sleeveless blouse, falling to hip length.

Neckline: a high neckline, faced and gathered along marked lines into a soft frilled edge, with a long keyhole slit at the front.

Closure: eight narrow self-fabric ties are stitched in at the top of the front slit and tied at the neck; their ends are knotted for a bohemian touch.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with bias-bound armholes.

Hem: a straight, simple hemline provides a neat finish.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves techniques such as facing a slit, making and inserting ties, gathering the neckline, and applying bias binding to armholes.

Fabric Recommendations

Select lightweight woven fabrics with a soft drape for best results:

  • Silk fabrics
  • Fabrics with man-made fibers (e.g., viscose)

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (for the front slit area)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 1 piece
  • Front – 1 piece
  • Back Facing – 1 piece
  • Front Facing – 1 piece
  • Additionally: 8 ties, 4 cm wide and of the desired length; 2 bias strips 4 cm wide, each equal to the armhole length.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder seams of the blouse. Press the shoulder seams open and serge.
  2. Fuse fusible interfacing to the slit area on the Front and the Front Facing. Stitch the shoulder seams of the Front Facing and Back Facing. Press the shoulder seams open. Place the facing on the blouse, right sides together, and stitch around the neckline and along the slit, leaving the section at the marked level unstitched. The seam at the top of the slit is 0.5 cm wide, at the bottom 0.2 cm. Cut the slit open. Turn the facing to the wrong side and press, turning the seam allowances inwards on the unstitched section.
  3. Stitch the side seams of the blouse. Press the side seams towards the back and serge.
  4. Cut 8 ties of the desired length, 4 cm wide. Press the ties in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Unfold and press the long edges to the center crease. Fold the ties along the center line, matching the folds, and edgestitch 0.1 cm from the edge.
  5. Sew lines of long, loose stitches along the marked lines around the neckline. Pull them up to the required length and secure. Insert the ties into the unstitched sections of the front slit and secure them with machine stitching.
  6. Cut a bias strip 4 cm wide and equal to the armhole length. Press it in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Place the binding right sides together with the armhole and stitch. Turn the binding to the wrong side. Topstitch the seam allowance to the binding 0.1 cm from the seam. Topstitch the fold of the binding to the armhole.
  7. Serge the hem allowance, turn to the wrong side, and topstitch.
