Pattern #5626
Tech. Description

Open-Back Lace-Up Corset Top

Introducing a charming women's corset-style top pattern, featuring a flattering paneled sweetheart bodice and a striking open back with adjustable lace-up detailing.

When To Wear

This versatile top is designed to make a statement, perfect for a variety of occasions:

  • Warm Weather Events: Ideal for summer parties, garden gatherings, or festivals thanks to its airy, open-back design.
  • Evening & Date Night: The structured bodice and alluring lace-up back create a sophisticated and memorable evening look.
  • Layering Piece: Style it over a sheer top or under an open jacket for a chic, fashion-forward ensemble.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a cropped and fitted bodice contours the figure with a structured, corset-inspired design.

Neckline: Features a classic sweetheart neckline that beautifully frames the décolletage.

Straps: Delicate spaghetti straps provide support and extend to form the adjustable lacing at the back.

Front: Multi-paneled construction creates a tailored fit, finished with a distinctive V-shaped hemline.

Back: An open back is secured by adjustable criss-cross lacing, formed by the extended shoulder straps, offering both visual interest and a customizable fit.

Length: Cropped, designed to sit above the natural waist.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This project requires confident sewing skills including precise panel construction, accurate dart manipulation, constructing and threading delicate straps, and careful finishing of the open back.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the dart on the upper front. Press the dart upwards.
  2. Stitch the upper and lower front parts together. Overlock the seams and press towards the upper.
  3. Stitch the front lining pieces.
  4. Place the upper back and lining right sides together and stitch along the center edge. Stitch the pieces along the upper and lower edges, stopping 1 cm before the center seam. Turn the pieces right side out and press. Topstitch along the center seam 1 cm from the edge.
  5. Process the lower back in a similar manner.
  6. Attach the upper and lower back parts to the front at the side seam. Overlock the seams and press towards the front.
  7. Cut a strap. Fold the strap lengthwise right sides together and stitch 0.5 cm from the fold. Turn the strap right side out and press. Attach the strap to the neckline of the front.
  8. Fold the strap, upper and lower back parts to the right side of the front. Place the bodice with lining right sides together and stitch along three sides: from the lower corner of the front, along the side seam, and then along the upper edge. Clip the seam, turn the pieces right side out and press.
  9. Fold under and press the remaining opening. Topstitch along the upper and lower edges, simultaneously stitching the unstitched section.
  10. Thread the strap through the back pieces as shown in the illustration.
