Maternity Pants with Stretch Front Panel

Main fabric, knit fabric, and fusible interfacing.

Cutting Plan

• Front half – 2 pieces (main fabric)
• Back half – 2 pieces (main fabric)
• Back facing – 2 pieces (main fabric)
• Insert – 2 pieces (knit fabric)
• Front facing – 2 pieces (knit fabric)
• Back upper facing – 2 pieces (fusible interfacing)

Sewing Instructions

1. Fuse interfacing to the back upper facing and the buttonhole area on the front facing.
2. Stitch the insert to the front pant half. Serge the seam and press towards the insert.
3. Stitch and serge the side seam of the pants. Press the side seam allowance towards the back pant half.
4. Serge the front and crotch edges of the pant halves and the bottom edge of the pants. Stitch and serge the inseams. Press the inseams towards the back pant half. Stitch the front and crotch seam. Topstitch the seat seam next to the front and crotch seam stitching line.
5. Stitch and serge the front and crotch seam. Topstitch the seat seam next to the front and crotch seam stitching line (stopping before the insert on the front half).
6. On the front facing, mark the buttonhole positions and make buttonholes (or insert eyelets).
7. Stitch the side edges of the front and back facings. Press seams open. Stitch the facings to the upper edge of the pants (easing the knit insert) and press the seam allowance towards the facings.
8. Serge the outer edge of the lower facings. Place facings right sides together and stitch the upper edge. Understitch the seam allowance to the lower facings 0.2 cm from the seam. Topstitch the serged edge of the lower facing to the seam allowance of the upper facings and press.
9. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side and topstitch.
10. Thread the decorative cord through the buttonholes and attach cord ends.
