  • Suiting fabrics with added elastic fibers (e.g., stretch gabardine, stretch twill)

Additional Supplies

  • Decorative cord
  • Cord tips
  • Fusible interfacing (for back facing and buttonhole area)

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • 1. Front Half – 2 pieces
  • 2. Back Half – 2 pieces
  • 3. Front Facing – 2 pieces
  • 4. Back Facing – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
  • 1. Back Facing – 1 piece (plus a small piece for the buttonhole area of the Front Facing)

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Back Facing and to the buttonhole area of the Front Facing.
  2. Stitch and serge/overlock the side seams joining the Front Half and Back Half. Press the side seams towards the Back Half.
  3. Serge/overlock the front and back crotch edges of the trouser halves and the lower edge of the legs. Stitch and serge/overlock the inseams. Press the inseams towards the Back Half. Stitch the front and back crotch seam in one pass. Stitch a second line next to the first along the seat (crotch) seam for reinforcement.
  4. Mark the buttonhole positions on the outer Front Facing and make the buttonholes.
  5. Stitch the side seams of the outer Front Facing and Back Facing and press the seams open. Stitch the facings to the upper edge of the trousers and press the seam towards the facings.
  6. Join the inner Front Facing and Back Facing at the side seams in the same way and serge/overlock their lower edge. Place the inner facings right sides together with the attached outer facings and stitch along the upper edge. Understitch the seam allowances to the inner facings 0.2 cm from the seam. Turn the inner facing to the inside, stitch its serged edge in the ditch of the outer facing seam, and press.
  7. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side and topstitch.
  8. Thread a decorative cord through the buttonholes and attach cord ends.
