Tech. Description

Halter Neck Gown with Sheer Overlay

Introducing an elegant women's maxi dress pattern featuring a sophisticated halter neckline, a fitted bodice, and a dramatic sheer overlay that creates a flowing, ethereal silhouette.

When To Wear

This elegant gown is designed for sophisticated events, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Formal Events & Galas: Its elegant design and flowing silhouette make it perfect for upscale celebrations.
  • Evening Wear: A sophisticated choice for dinner parties, cocktails, or any special night out.
  • Destination & Summer Weddings: The airy, graceful overlay is ideal for warm-weather celebrations or resort wear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A sophisticated maxi-length gown, fitted through the bodice with a flowing A-line silhouette, enhanced by a dramatic sheer overlay.

Neckline: A chic halter neckline, secured with a wide tie that forms a statement bow at the back of the neck.

Bodice: A fitted bodice constructed with princess seams for tailored shaping.

Back: An elegant open back design, with the halter tie creating a graceful detail at the nape.

Closure: Concealed zipper closure placed in the left side seam for a seamless finish.

Skirt & Overlay: The inner dress features a high slit for comfort and movement, elegantly covered by a voluminous, full-length sheer overlay that drapes gracefully.

Hem: Maxi length, with the sheer overlay creating a dramatic, flowing train effect.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires experience with concealed zippers, working with sheer fabrics, and constructing a lined garment with shaping seams.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the center back seam up to the NOTCHES for the slit, and the princess seams on the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL of the main fabric pieces. Overcast and press open the center back seam, pressing the slit. Overcast and press the remaining seams towards the center.
  2. Stitch the side seams, leaving an unstitched section in the left seam for the ZIPPER, overcast and press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES. Attach the ZIPPER.
  3. Divide the boning into 6 equal parts. Attach the boning pieces from the upper edge of the dress to the waist to the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the right side seam, princess seams, and center back seam.
  4. Stitch the center back seam, princess seams on the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL, and side seams on the LINING pieces, leaving the slit for the ZIPPER. Overcast and press the seams.
  5. Place the dress and LINING right sides together. Fold back the LINING 5 mm from the edges of the concealed fastening and pin to the upper edge of the dress. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCES along the ZIPPER to the right side of the dress and pin to the upper edge over the LINING. Stitch the upper edges. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCES along the fastening to the wrong side. Fold the LINING up and topstitch onto the seam allowance 1-2 mm from the seam. Fold the LINING to the wrong side and attach it to the ZIPPER tape.
  6. Overcast, fold, and topstitch the hem of the dress and LINING to the wrong side.
  7. Stitch, overcast, and press the FLOUNCE pieces. Finish the edges with a turned-under seam.
  8. On the dress, overcast and cut a buttonhole. Thread the FLOUNCE through the buttonhole, and tie the ends of the FLOUNCE in a knot on the figure.
